    3. Marcella LAFFOON SMITH: the daughter of Don Elbert LAFFOON SR and Hattie Baldin [Maud] CALFEE, was born on 27 Mar 1925 in Greenfield, Dade Co., MO. The family Moved from Greenfield, MO to Trenton, MO, in 1933 after the passing of her father. Marcella died in Trenton, Grundy Co., MO, on 26 Feb 2006; she was 80. Buried in Pilot Grove #1 Cemetery, Daviess Co., MO. Occupation: At the time of her marriage, she worked at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., in Trenton. Then became a Homemaker. Education: Graduated from Trenton High School, Grundy Co., MO, in 1943. Religion: Southern Baptist. On 16 Jun 1946 when Marcella was 21, she married Hubert Nevin SMITH, son of Jesse Frank SMITH & Alpha Mae BAKER, in Trenton, Grundy Co. by Dr. J. E. Todd at the 1st Christian Church, Trenton, MO. They settled outside of Jamesport, and farmed, and in 1948, Marcella and Nevin had son, Jerry Lynn. In 1952, their small family was completed with the birth of son, James [Jim] Richard. Marcella accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was an active member of Pilot Grove #1 Baptist Church for many years, serving on many committees or whereever her service was needed. After Nevin’s death in 1986, she moved into Jamesport and joined Jamesport Baptist Church. She took her faith seriously and even while in residence at Sunnyview Nursing Home, never missed a Sunday Service at the Home. Her desire and prayer was for all of her family members to be in church, serving the Lord. Marcella was an active and lifetime member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion of Trenton.and VFW Auxiliary, taking great pride in their accomplishments. She particularly loved going to the VA Hospital, putting on programs and serving refreshments. She enjoyed life whereever she was, and had a love for people. Her sweet spirit caused all to enjoy being around her. Her laughter was contagious, even with pranks played on her by her husband and sons. Her responses to those pranks were filled with humorous sayings which causes family laughter even in the midst of their grief. She was an example of a true Christian lady and was loved by all who knew her. She will be sorely missed. Preceeded in death by: her husband, parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and a daughter in law. Survivors: son, Jerry Smith of Jefferson City, MO; son and daughter in law, Jim and Lanita Sconce Smith, of Jamesport; 1 sister, Marietta Goins of Ottumwa, IA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 nieces, 1 nephew; cousins, and a host of friends and neighbors.
