The 1860 Dade County Census ( Morgan District ) shows a " Samuel Lance" wife Nancy, and son " Luther ' This is " Samuel Lafayette Lance, born in Buncombe Co. NC, in 1838, to Martin B. Lance. Samuel Lafayette Lance married Nancy Wasson in 1856, in Buncombe County NC. And then migrated to Dade County Missouri. In 1858 their son " Martin Luther Lance " was born. In 1862 ( according to their family bible they buried an infant daughter. This is the last I know anything of Samuel Lafayette and Nancy Lance. They must have died there in Dade County in the mid 1860's since their young son was sent back to Buncombe and raised by his uncles.. These people have been known to me but were lost or missing. I knew that Samuel and Nancy had died early and the Martin Luther was sent home to Buncombe to be raised by his uncles I knew that the death certificate of Martin Luther Lance here in Buncombe listed his birthplace as Missouri, but I just thought that was a mistake,, since he did travel out there often I knew that in letters found That Martin Luther had written back home to his family ( here ) postmarked in Missouri that he had found his mothers family.. ( Wasson ) At any rate-- Martin Luther Lance had a son in Buncombe County -- Garland Brigman Lance--- who had a son Max Garland Lance,, and then ME -- Dennis Max Lance. If there is any information about early Dade County or this family please let me know...
