I believe it is the opposite of the following, but we could just have a semantic difference: > Townships run north and south > > Range runs east and west > If you look at the Index to the Dade Co Atlas here, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~judysstuff/dade/05.gif Then compare it to the Census Township Districts defined in the Index you can see here at the map at the county website (scroll down): http://www.rootsweb.com/~modade/modade.htm You will see that all those in Township 30 lie along in the Lawrence County border in the Southern part of the county, and thus is the strip that runs East to West. With respect to Range, similarly, the eastern border of the county is defined by those parcels of land in Range 25 and thus ranges runs north to south. Best Regards Janet Hunter
