I'm looking for an obituary for a Lockwood resident if such a thing exists. I am willing to travel to Dade County if someone Phil: You can go to your local library and ask them to make an interlibrary request of the State Historical Society of Missouri, 1020 Lowry St., Columbia, Missouri, 65201, to send a microfilm, to your library, of the Lockwood, Dade Co., MO Luminary, year 1925 (and the Greenfield, Dade Co., MO Vedette, 1925, if you want to look at both). The charge for this will be about $10.00 and it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get it (them). That's assuming your library has a microfilm reader. It's also better if the microfilm reader has a printer. The older newspapers were inconsistent about publishing obituaries on people or even any kind of death notice. It depended on whether there was someone who took the time and effort to give an obit. to the paper but if they did you can usuallly get some good information and it's worth a try. I don't know how much your library charges to make copies but mine charges 10 cents each which is cheaper than the State Historical Society of Missouri which was charging 25 cents a copy when I was there a few years ago, and I always make a lot of copies of information I find from these old newspapers. Even their small town 'blurbs' could sometimes give you a clue about where someone had moved, etc. Lynda

Back then I think there was another paper called the Advertiser. The best place to go, though, is the state historical society newspaper archives in Columbia. It's on the University of Missouri campus, and they have on microfilm papers from all over the state, including thoses from Greenfield. Their url is http://www.umsystem.edu/shs/visit.html I have been there several times, and found a wealth of information.
