    1. John Smith/Dilla Nowell Smith Family
    2. Joanne Gaudio
    3. I'm searching for any information on the John & Dilla (Nowell) Smith family, who moved to Dade Co., MO, from Benton Co., TN, before the 1860 census. The family consisted of: John Smith (b. 1801, GA), Dilla/Delia/Delilah Nowell Smith (b. 1824, NC), William H. (b. 1842, TN), Levi (b. 1844, TN), Cynthia/Syntha (b. 1848, TN), Sarah (b. 1849, TN), Cullen (b. 1850, TN), John A. (b. 1854, MO), Lucy/Isabella (b. 1856, MO), Andy J. (b. 1858, MO), James W. (b. 1861, MO), and Alonso/Alonzo (b. 1867, KS or MO). John died before 1870 - does anyone know of a burial? The whole family has disappeared by 1880, and I don't know if they died, married, left? Any help will be very much appreciated. Joanne Gaudio

I Have not found a connection to them. I have studied them and meet a few. However, I dislike burning bridges before they are crossed. .So be that as it may I would just like to say that if they are it is back before my 3rd Great Grand Father James since there has been discussion that the Mitchell's of Dade County could have been related back before they came to Dade. Being the Geneology Enthusist I am I know that the further back in time we travel the closer we get to being related to someone it is just a matter of how. Fred was Married to Ida Jane Shipley first on Oct 25, 1892 in Dade County and had three children (She is paced in the Greenfield Cemetery) when she died he remarried to Anna Belle Culver a couple of years later on Sept. 19, 1904. She remarried to a Washington Messicah Cotner before she passed away on June 11, 1924 and was placed in the Greenfield Cemetery. Fred then remarried to Martha Melzora Cook on April 30, 1927 in Greenfield, Dade, Missouri where he passed away Feb. 23, 1938 and Martha lived on until Nov. 9, 1952, however this is what gets me someone on the net has her as being Buried in Shreveport, Caddo, Louisana...that is a long ways from home and at that age. I have a descendant from that line I'm in contact with and I will have to ask her how this came about.

William was born in McMinn Co, TN. Benjamin Wasson was from Buncombe Co, NC and is on the 1820 census there. His father was Henry Wasson and Mary (Unknown). He had at least one brother, William Wasson. My guess is that your Nancy is the daughter of Hamilton Wasson and Isabella (Unknown) on the 1850 Henderson County, NC census. Note this family got enumerated twice on the 1850 census for Henderson Co, NC. The two families are related Hamilton is probably a cousin of William. Charles

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CKB.2ACE/1825 Message Board Post: This is the time of year when we plan to go to cemeteries to place flowers. May I suggest that we expand the tradition by buying one or 2 extra flowers or flags, and placing them on some lonely grave who we suspect has no one to honor them? Do it for those who would love to do it themselves. Do it to honor those who have passed, even though we didn't know them. Do it just because those who you know did not have any descendants, still need to be honored by those who still remember. We family historians, know the story of some, that others do not know, or do not care to know. I feel sorry for those who have forgotten. Place a flower or flag to show, that YOU haven't forgotten. There's nothing that will make you feel better! Lanita
