Att: Carl Coffman When did Oklahoma become a state? Do you know the lines of the "Old Indian Territory"? My father was born in Claremore, Oklahoma in 1898. At that time Claremore was a part of the Indian Territory. I've never known how large the Oklahoma Indian Territory was or when it ceased to exist. Thank you in advance for your enlightenment. Tammy, By chance can you see if there is a Leila Mabel Courtney? She would have been a senior in 1928 or 1929. She was born in Greenfield in 1904, and should have been there during her senior year. She is my Great Grandmother. I would appreciate it. Word Ray's father was Samuel A. Wasson. Samuel A's married Ola. Samuel's A's father was George and his mothe was Mary. George's mother was Mariah Louisa Cunningham. I don't know the Wasson she married (second marriage). Mariah had a much younger sister named Fleeta Flora Cunningham who later married William Drayton Wasson in Forsyth County (May 19, 1901). Mariah had eight children in all. The five Wasson children are: Lawton Wasson, Robert Wasson, George S. (my g-g grandfatherJ), Stella Vanessa and William Drayton Wasson. Apparently, Mariah named George afther her brother's (Henry Lawrence Cunningham) son: George Stewart Mariah named William Drayton after her brother. Robert was named after her brother Rober F. If Mariah's sister Fleeta Flora married Mariah's son, William Drayton Wasson, Fleeta would have been 34 while William Drayton Wasson would have been after George S (1849) and was 52 at the time of the wedding. It might have been that William Drayton married a cousin instead of this aunt. The way the family used the same names it is possible that one of Mariah's brothers had a child named Fleeta Flora. \ William Drayton Wasson was an attorney and in 1919 was elected a member of the New Mexico State Legislator. Hope this helps. Gail

Hello Everyone, While some would probably call every square mile of Dade & Lawrence County rural <smile>, I am interested in what year/years/year range that the farm areas of Dade and Lawrence County were "wired". I simply cannot keep up with my father's families comings and goings (Mt. Vernon 1800, Springfield 1808, Miami OK 1815 or so until about 1830, then Miller???), but he mostly lived in towns and cities which I assume had electricity first. I am most interested in when the area on the border between Lawrence & Dade, County Road WW, East of Highway 39 (got that right Lynda??) between the highway and Shiloh, etc. Some of you that live or did live there might know? Last summer was my first trip back since I was a toddler in 1950. Best Regards, Janet Hunter

RE: All I have is the first name Fannie for Jesse's wife (Obediah's Mom) . Bob Jesse and Fannie Scott had two sons: Obediah 5 June 1795 - 1850's and Jesse, Jr., 8 September 1798 - bef 1850. It appears that both Obediah and Jesse, Jr.'s wives were deceased bef 1850, also. Obediah moved to Cooper Co MO before 1830 with other members of "the tribe". Jesse Scott, jr. remained in KY in 1830 - Monroe County, of course, and apparently moved to what was perhaps Barry Co Mo before 1850 and apparently died bef 1850 census. I'm not sure which of the Scott desc. belong to him and which to Obediah, although Obediah was living with George Scott, who died in 1854, who must be a son of his. So, any ideas on who the wives of Obediah and Jesse Scott were - the ladies were deceased prior to 1850, as was Jesse Scott. I have the feeling that if the names ever turn up, they will be from a families that are part of this mirgration pattern from Surry to Monroe/Cumberland/Overton to Dade and Cooper MO. (Obediah migrated to Cooper County, with others from these areas, and lived there 15 or so yrs before coming to Dade)Nancy --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
