Janet, No, you are not the last. I just found out about it thanks to you. Thanks for taking the time to post the info. Sharon Ford Van Nuys, CA
Thanks to a nice person for posting the information regarding the online census, I have just discovered Andrew and Margaret Stewart in South Morgan Twp 1920 census. Is there a possibility that someone could help check tombstone inscriptions for me please. This elusive couple have given me a merry chase. I believe Margaret is the daughter of Owen Leasure (Leisure, Lasure, Laisure) and the sister of my Rebecca Leasure Smith. Andrew and Margaret are shown with a grandson Jerry D. Clopton was 21 in 1920. I would welcome any assistance on him as well. Thanks! Gayle [email protected]

Hello, Am I the last person to realize that the entire 1920 Dade County Census has now been transcribed in household order, indexed and the whole works online by LeAnn Kennedy and is available at at the USGenWeb site???? It is HERE!!!! ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/mo/dade/1920/ Along side the 1850 transcription I know we've posted here before: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/mo/dade/1850/ This is a companion to the 1850 census at the County Website, which is organized by household. The indexes are by first and last name, not household for the UsgenWeb census versions. The county website version is accessed by the links for surnames on the main page of the county website (go on down a ways) here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~modade/modade.htm The 1920 census has apparently been there for a year or so. This is all in addition to the free online census images for Missouri 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1850 slave schedules here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mackley/census_page.htm You can use the transcribed versions above to look at the "real thing" in this link. FYI, the state index for the UsGenweb Project is here: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/ My best, Janet (Baugh) Hunter

Follow it north approximately five miles. The cemtery will be on the east side of the road up on a knoll. Can be seen from the road and is well maintenanced. This cemetery was a little hard to divide, so read the instruction on each section carefully. I was there about a year and 1/2 ago. None of the road are marked. Where is said that it can be seen from the road, that not so true anymore. We went looking for it and a new house was being constructed in front of the "Vaughn Cemetery" rod iron arched sign. So if you feel that you have gone to far you probably have. We had to turn around and ask directions. I copied the information from the Spingfield lib. but only copied the grave site that were pertaining to my family. Hello Everyone, A note on the following article appeared on the Lower-Delmarva-Roots list tonight (of all places -- East of the Chesapeake Counties in VA, DE and MD and origin of Ruarks, Whaleys, Truitts, others of Dade/Lawrence Co area). I surely thought it'd be of interest here: The Springfield (MO) NewsLeader's lead story today is "Remembering the orphan trains" "From 1854 to 1929, thousands of homeless children were sent west..." The story also includes the history, interviews of orphans who ended up in the Ozarks and a map that gives the number of children from different states and numbers that each state took in. For the article, see <http://www.OzarksNow.com/> Hope you enjoy it. Janet (Baugh) Hunter
Thank you SO much for sending this --- Elizabeth WILDE DANIEL is the widow of Lyle DANIEL, (son of, I believe) Chester Lafayette DANIEL of Dade Co, MO........I visited with Elizabeth the year after Lyle died and she told me some of her story, but unfortunately, at the time I had no idea what the Orphan Train was, so really missed out on a great opportunity to ask loads of questions. Chester Lafayette DANIEL and my GG-G'fa John William DANIEL (m Martha Ellen HAMPTON) were brothers. She's looking GREAT!!! Hi List, Thought some of you might be interested in this. John Polk County History Book to Be Published The Polk County Genealogical Society, Inc. is sponsoring and compiling a new family history book for Polk County, Missouri--"The History and Families of Polk County, Missouri." The book will contain a history of Polk County, spotlighting the following areas: communities, churches, schools, businesses, farms, clubs, organizations and more. The main part of the book will be the family history section and there will also be a section for memorials and tributes. The publication will be unique as it will be written by Polk County people. If you have a connection to Polk County, you are urged to submit a family history for this one-of-a-kind book. Below are the guidelines for submitting your history for the Polk County book. **Write your stories in third person (use "he," "she," "they" instead of "I" and "we.") **The history should be 500 words or less (words are considered three letters or more; dates such as May 20, 2002 are considered as one word for this publication). **The 500 words can cover more than one family's history. ONE biography per household. **The story should be submitted on 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, typewritten, double spaced. Please sign your name to your history. **One photograph submitted with your family history is also allowed. Please indicate the names of people, date and caption for the picture. **The deadline for contributions and advance orders is July 30, 2002. **There is NO CHARGE to submit your family history and photograph. I know there are many more questions about this book and I have gone into much more detail on my web site. I made the page on my web site to show my support of this book. Here is the link: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jwtrout/historybook.htm If that doesn't answer your questions, please contact Bunny Jones, Book Chairman for more information, email: [email protected] or write to her at this address: Polk County History Book, P. In the following e-mail, Young Cemetery was listed, and at the end of the e-mail, it appeared that someone was looking for Courtneys. A Cousin and I walked Young Cemetery last fall. No Courtneys there, either.
