Janet, The information you received was probably from either Bob Wilson or Darla Edmiston. Bob's e-mail address is: [email protected] Darla's e-mail address is: [email protected] I have also done some research on the HUDSPETH line along with another lady who lives in Independence, MO. I am assuming that your note refers to Gideon Thomas HUDSPETH (1849-1914) and his wife Mary Elizabeth MERRICK (1849-1914). Gideon is a distant cousin of Giles HUDSPETH (1784-1867) who is one of my wife's ancestors. Hope this is the information you are looking for. Ken Soper

Last summer I believe one of you all sent me some information on Merricks and Hudspeths. I have the information but didn't keep track of who emailed it to me. In another context the Hudspeths have come up (North Carolina), and I'd like to get in touch with the person who helped me. Thanks, Janet Hunter

Dear Listers; I'm seeking information on my GGF William D. George b March 1849 MO (according to census records) and GM Mary Adaline (Garrett) George b Aug 9, 1878 Albert, (Gillespie Co.),TX. William was a cattle hand and worked on the Moss Ranch in Llano Co., TX prior to Sept 18, 1879 when he married Henrietta Solomon b 1861 GA (daughter of Godwin and Mary Jane Roberts)in Gillespie Co., TX. They had four children between 1880 and 1887, Wm. is recorded widowed, 1900 census. Their first child Wm. Lawrence George (my GF) born July 21, 1880 served in the U.S.A. and then the U.S.M.C. before marrying Mary Garrett, having their first child Waldorff George and moving to Maricopa Co., AZ. Wm. D. and Henrietta (went by Ettie) also had Euphamia, Enock and Francis. Wm. D. George sold his farm and moved across the co. to Willow City after his children had grown. There he built and operated a general store until it was destroyed by fire. No more in known of William D. George. His birth place in MO and my GM's parents and siblings are and have remained by blocks for years. Any suggestions, ideas or references will be very welcome, if you are researching this line or believe you could be related, you are strongly encouraged to reply. Friends; I recently was told of a marriage that was supposed to have taken place in Greenfield in 1882 between Florence Myers (sp?) and Marcus McLemore. The couple later moved to Pryor, OK, where Florence died in 1896. Marcus is not a descendant of the Dade Co McLemores, but likely a Cousin from Monroe Co, TN, where the Dade Co McLemores came from. I'd sure appreciate if anybody knows anything about these folks. Bob Wilson
Jane, That email was me responding to what Dorothy had written. Leila Mabel Courtney Newkirk was my GGMother. Her husband was Robert Neal Newkirk. Robert Neal Newkirk was born 24 Jan 1903, Pennsboro, MO. Married Leila 7 Mar 1925, Greenfield, Dade Co, MO. He died 13 Jul 1977, La Mirada, Los Angeles Co, CA. His parents were Jacob Elwood Newkirk and mother was Ollie Alberta Neal. (If you want the info on Jacob, Ollie, Abraham, and Elizabeth, let me know) Jacob Elwood Newkirk's parents were Abraham Taylor (A.T. or Abner) Newkirk (A.T. was an abbreviation although many books list that as a first name) and Elizabeth Ruddick. I'm way deep on this line, I can go further back if you want to. WILLIAM NEWKIRK IS NOT MARRIED TO LEILA MABEL COURTNEY. See Below Abraham Taylor Newkirk's children are: John Franklin b. 10 Nov. 1858 Jackson TWP, Jackson, IN William Lindley b. 16 Jan 1860 Jackson TWP, Jackson, IN Mary Elnora b. 6 Mar 1861 Jackson TWP, Jackson, IN Jacob Elwood b. 4 Mar 1862 Jackson TWP, Jackson, IN Elmer Andrew b. 26 Sep 1864 Cottonwood, Chase Co, KS James H. b. 11 Aug 1866 d. 18 Nov 1871 Cottonwood, Chase Co, KS Jerusha Elva b. 16 Apr 1868 Cottonwood, Chase Co, KS Julia Ann b. 14 Nov 1873 Cottonwood, Chase Co, KS Janet, I have more info on William somewhere, but not at hand when I looked this up in my files. Of the other names listed below, Roy and Thelma are in this mix. My mom remembers uncle Roy and Thelma and had been to their house. Hopefully within a few days I can confirm more information on Roy and Thelma. The other names are unfamiliar. Which Newkirk did Leila marry, and who were his parents, grandparents, etc. I am looking for connections with descandents of Abraham Taylor Newkirk, particularly my 3g uncle William L. I know they had adaughter Cora who married Luther Fortner (and I knew both of them, we visited with them in San Diego when I was growing up). We also visited in Torrance frequently (reunions, etc.) with Roy and Thelma Newkirk. My mother doesn't remember her maiden name. Roy was the son of Elmer and Stella ?? I am also curious where Loyd Newkirk who married Gail Ruark (mother a Fortner), fits in. I don't know how thoroughly you've studied these folks. I can't find William L. and Anne Mary Belle in the 1920 Dade Co census, where my mom is sure they are, but I think they may have lived just over the line in Lawrence Co. Janet, I found William Newkirk and his wife in the 1920 Census in Lawrence County, MO with their daughter Birdie O. in Lincoln Twp, page 13B, Dwelling 311, Family 318. He's in the index as William S. Newkirk. I will send you the image. Thank you Anisah, I do not know were they were living at the time and I have the 1920 census info. for Marshall, just not the 1910. Would you look for Arthur and Lula Griden on the 1920 Dade co census, that is if you have the book, do not know where they are living at the time. Thank you again.
