    3. Many people have e-mailed me how difficult it is to find the Ozarks Genealogy Column in the News-Leader a Springfield, Mo. newspaper. I informed them of this problem and they have made it easier to get to the column. You can now get to GENEALOGY by going to News-Leader.com Click on LIFE GENEALOGY is one of the headings at top of page. Click on it and it will take you to: http://ozarksnow.com/springfield/lifestyle/genealogy/index_new.shtml Here is the direct link to Ozarks Genealogy Column: http://www.news-leader.com/springfield/lifestyle/genealogy/index_new.shtm l The News-Leader has changed the direct link a couple of times and I sincerely hope they do not change it again. I try to get the direct link out to everyone by putting it in my automatic signature. Please bookmark the site and use this free query column. Thanks. Gloria Bogart Carter, Genealogist, 733 S. Send me the names [no more than 2 surnames please], estimated birth year and where they lived. Census goes back to 1790 and up to 1930. I will send in JPEG file. Since I have offered this to other mailing lists, please be specific for county and state where you need me to check. Who needs a lookup? Hope this helps! Your info is great! i think the other brown sister was lucy..did she marry samuel b laforce? anyway , if i remember correctly, they had a james/R/? who died in the civil war??. they were supposedly in scott co., il & pike co, mo. my james no middle initial ever seen-yet, was b. june 7, 1842 in greene co, IL, found on the 1860 montgomery co, IL censes in the home of david davis sr., 74-76 yrs old Merchant/ bought into banking house Beach, Martin etc. later.. his wife, jane 55 yrs b. va., & son david davis jr. age 20?, & james laforce age 18yr b. IL. I can't find him in 1850, or 1870./ -/state census years- 1835/40/45/ 50/55/60/65?? have you ever tried to use any of these, if they really exist? I think there was a george laforce in ? jersey/greene co abt 1840, also. were they brothers. do you know? I think gillespie/jasper laforce in greene co. il also was around their ages--1796- 1812. gillespie md a nancy short who died (jasmine co. KY) he was aquainted with & possibly traveled with these families..mulberry, rice wood/s/davis..per mrs. helen widdowson, greene co., historical soc..willis also. this is where i got the robt m info $300. fine/ tavern & sold a farm. also there was a john s laforce in macoupin co. 1850-60.. poss list of enrollments-military.(Mary Jane Laforce md John L.(Squire) Wood/s & had mega kids..dau of Gillespie) there must have been 3-4 or more james laforces between IL & MO census/civil war records. my james enlisted in litchfield IL, montgomery co. married there july 16, 1868 to miss susan a. clearwater, dau of dr. jacob c. & elizabeth brickey clearwater. they had 4 children- 1st william f. laforce b. 1869/70 - 2nd perry b. 1872 - 3rd my grandmother, maytie mariah laforce b. july 3, 1874 - 4th grace eleanor laforce b 1876. she raised my mom, as maytie died 6 weeks after mom was born. --james died, unknown how.. april 13, 1878. this is also the date susan purchases the plot in elmwood cem., litchfield, IL. james is buried under susan's 2nd husband, john riley monden, who died in the 1880's. (he was definitely a locomotive engineer per 1880 census.) james laforce was in the army of the west, and purchased his horse when discharged to go back home to litchfield, IL. Mom thought james was killed in a boiler explosion on a locomotive.. said he and susan lived in a sod house for a while, mentioned kansas, & that she fended off "robbers" with a rifle & ? 3-4 children hanging on her shirts. the robbers wanted the railroad settlement $. would there be any records anyplace regarding this payoff? do you know how robt died? where he's buried? gravemarker? other children besides catherine & james R.? ( R for Rene/Raney)? who was mary's "nearby sister" & to whom was she married? where is Nilwood..& what co? His fiance's name/& parents? who were children/ who did they marry?? I just wish so much that my james could have lived to 1910 or so.. was marriage #4, in IL? the other night I found an e-mail, the lost it..from someone who said: the more they thought about it & checked their records, the were convinced my james was from robt m,, son of robt s., son of raney, son of samuel, b. before 1750, thru claiborn, tn., clark co, ky, & I think meade co, KY also... this may not be exactly as written to me, as I was only able to read it once, then accidently lost it.. please stay in touch..i feel they are all tied into ky tn va.. I'm interested in anything you are fortunate to find.. best wishes, Linda
