I wrote to the historical society to no avail, so I will try this approach. We need volunteers to go to the courthouse and transcribe records. When I first started doing my family history I was able to go to the courthouse in Illinois and search out anything I needed. I even got copies of birth records. At that time they were an "open record state". Now you have to fill out an application for anything you want searched out. I do not know if there is a search fee, but it was almost as time consuming as the drive. I am afraid if we do not get what we can while we can other states may follow, considering the present state of affairs.
