    1. Re: ROLL CALL - COOK
    2. Laura and Mike Burress
    3. Well, In keeping it specific to Crawford County I have to limit myself to the Cook name. Specifically descendants/ancestors of Christopher Columbus Cook, Jr. aka "Capt. Cook". Chris settled in what is now known as Cook Station. Alas, there are no Cook relations left there. The last one being Christopher Dean Cook who moved to Illinois about 5-6 years ago. Now by virtue of marriage we are related to many people in and around Crawford County...Beckham's, Copeland's, McDaniel's, Maire's, Sewell's, Gentry's and (it seems like) most of the early Maries County settlers. About the only Crawaford County line I haven't tied into yet (and I'm sure the tie is there somewhere) is the Pinnell's!! Happy New Year to all! 3. My great-great-grandmother was William Ann McFarland. After being widowed in her marriage to Thomas M. Spencer, she married my great-great-grandfather, Rev John T. Davis, a circuit rider in Gasconade County. They settled in southern Gasconade County for a number of years after marriage, then moved to Stoddar County. I am seeking information on the McFarlands. In 1850 the census lists William Ann as 17, born in MO, and living with Reuben Bailey (76 y.o., born in VA), Fanny Bailey (69 y.o.), and I. M. Bailey (41 y.o., born in KY). Thomas M. Spencer and William Ann McFarland both of Crawford Co., Mo. married on 30 April 1851 by J. B. Birk, Minister of the M. E. Church South at Crawford Co., Mo. Rev. John T. Davis and William Ann Spencer both of Crawford Co., Mo. married on 3 July 1856 by J. R. Burk, Minister of the M. E. Church South at Crawford Co., Mo.

    2. Joe L. Miller
    3. I think it is time to have a roll call. Sometimes in doing my research I get allot of new names. You may add as many names as you like, but I am hoping they would have a Missouri connection, especially the Crawford County area, but can be from a neighboring county. My MILLERS were from North Carolina, William Jackson Miller, born in 1830 and settled in Yankee Branch area of Crawford County with his parents when he was 10 years old. But who were his parents. Other names I have are BROWNS from Franklin County; George Marion WEST, also born in Franklin County, so was his father John W. West. Please put your surnames in the subject heading. Thanks and happy hunting. -- Joe L. 3. Found the following in a book called PIONEER TIMES, volume 12, 1988. I don't know these folks, am not related, and have typed everything there is in the book to type about them. Just thought YOU might be interested in the info here, and if it helps even 1 person, it was worth my time and trouble. Joanne Scobee Morgan CRAWFORD COUNTY, MISSOURI NEWSPAPERS The following newspaper clippings were pasted in an old scrap book. The unknown collector had clipped them from an 1891 Crawford County Missouri Newspaper... I don't know the name of it or the dates on some of these. ____LVILLE, MO, Nov 19, 1891 (Probably Steelville) Obituary Miss LOU COWDEN, who died at her sister's, Mrs. M. O. TAYLOR's at Bourbon, on the 9th inst., was the daughter of the REV. J. W. COWDEN, formerly of this county, and at the time of her death, was in the 35th year of her age. She has resided in the city for a number of years and was in the country this fall to try and recuperate her health, which has been very much impaired for some time, when she was attacked with the erysipelas and only lived a few days. Miss Lou became converted to the cause of Christ under her father's preaching when very young and from that time to her death lived a model Christian life. She showed her Christian virtues in all her wilks in life and never found anything too much or too exacting for her to do for the cause of religion. She was noble, generous, kind and lovely to and loved by all. Well can the brothers and sisters say with the poet: "Sister, thou was mild and lovely, Gentle as the summer breeze; Pleasant as the air of evening, As it floats a! mong the trees." Since her death one of the family has written: "She was the best of us all; loving, kind and industrious, better to others than to herself. To liertt (?) is rest, eternal rest." She was buried at Leasburg on the 11th where a large number of friends, neighbors and old schoolmates had gathered to pay her the last sad tribute of respect. MARRIAGE Married at the residence of J. C. Burkes, last Sunday evening at 4 o'clock, Mr. William Drennon and Miss Rena Marsh, both of Riverside. Rev. Phillips officiating. Wherever you dwell, May content be your lot; And friendship like ivy, Encircle your cot, Is the best wish of Samant____ OBITUARY The sad intelligence reached here on Tuesday, that Edw. M. Clark died at his home in Hermann, MO., on the 30th of Nov. 1891, from typhoid fever. The deceased was reared in this county, and from this place enlisted in the 7th Missouri Cavalry. In 1869 he was married to MARY A. GIBSON, daughter of DR. ALEXANDER GIBSON of this place who bore him a son and a daughter, who are both living. He resided for several years in Phelps county where he was elected clerk of the circuit court. He was there admitted to the bar, but finally removed to Gasconade County where he practiced his profession up to the time of his fatal illness. He was an intelligent and able man, a genial and kindhearted citizen, an indulgent father and a faithful husband. His remains were brought to Steelville, and buried from the Baptist church on Wednesday. MR. WM. JOLLEY & MISS ANNA A. FANNING, were married at the residence of MR. JOHN FANNING yesterday, 13 Jan, 1792. (that surely is a typo... probably should be 1892)

You can link to it directly from the archives page, under history. I will be putting text files about each town as I can get the information on it. If your ancestor founded a town, chances are they will be listed. You can click on the name to go to the history of it, or you can click on the nearest town to see the map (on the right). The map links do work, but the history has only been done for Leasburg and Hinch. I will be working on the others as time permits. I keep seeing so-and-so founded this or that town as I do lookups, and I get requests for such, so I decided to just put up the site.
