    3. Information on picture in the Independent-Journal, Thursday, March 15, 1979 Under the picture is written: FAMILY PORTRAIT. Pictured here are four generations of the Frank Portell Family on the front porch at their home on Bottom Diggins Road - home now torn down. The group includes seated at left, Frank Portell and to his left his wife Mary Frank Boyer and their daughter Rosie Portell next to Mrs. Portell and her husband Francis (Brazz) Politte, left of Frank and their son Andrew Politte, left and daughter Mamie Politte, center rear holding her daughter Mamie Portell. At right are Gert Portell, standing and her brother Fred Portell, with fiddle and his wife Nellie Hopkins with guitar. The photo is from an historic album being assembled by Stanley Kent Bone, Old Mines historian and genealogist. I copy the exact message under the picture as it was printed in the newspaper. Does anyone know of anyone mention in this newspaper clipping? The person who took the picture has not yet gotten back to me about the album mention above, or how I can get more (real picture not just this newspaper clipping) picture, and information on the above people mention in this newspaper clipping. Does anyone know about the historic album that was assembled by Stanley Kent Bone, Old Mines historian and genealogist? I appreciate any information or help. 1. FARRAR - WOODS - BRICKEY et al.
    2. james e. wall
    3. Hi All, If you can add to this please contact me. I posted this on a MyFamily.com site and wanted to post it here as well. It is in response to a probable correction in BRICKEY family genealogy. Elizabeth BRICKEY w/o William FARRAR has been thought to be the daughter of William BRICKEY & Cynthia ATKINSON. It now appears that Elizabeth BRICKEY FARRAR is, in fact, the daughter of Peter BRICKEY & Nancy SUTTON. Sarah Jane FARRAR m. John Henry WOODS 15 Nov 1868 Crawford Co. Mo and she is the d/o my g-g-g-grandfather Joseph FARRAR & Mary unknown. John Henry WOODS & Sarah Jane FARRAR had at least two children: William b. ca 1869 and Emma b. ca 1876. A Sarah Jane FARRAR m. James WOODS appears in the Crawford Co. marriage book on the same date. John Henry WOODS must have been known as James WOODS. This Sarah Jane FARRAR is the sister of the William FARRAR who married Elizabeth BRICKEY. The children of William FARRAR & Elizabeth BRICKEY were: Hallet, Judy, Mary, Lola. I know my Aunt Mary Lou STAHL has met and talked to a couple of these children or grand?children: I think Judy and Hallet, or their children, but that is memory and I will try to remember to ask next time I talk to Aunt Mary Lou since this family is stirring interest. These WOODS are the family of Posey WOODS & Margaret LACKEY. Posey WOODS b. 3 Sept 1814 Haywood Co. NC d. 11 March 1893 Crawford Co. Missouri. After reviewing the family I will post as I see BRICKEY being used as a middle name in Posey WOODS family. 1. William L. 1835-1874 2. John N. 1842-???? 3. Samuel 1843-1863 4. John Henry m. Sarah Jane FARRAR 5. Mary Jane 1845-1861 6. Sarah Ann 1847-1935 m. Joshua MALLOW 7. Posey Jr. 1848-1921 m. Jane KINWORTHY 8. Darcus Gemima <sic> 1849-1935 m. William Henry RAY 9. George Washington 1850/51-17 Aug 1911 m. Nancy J. WALLER 10. Margaret Mahaley 1852-1923 m. Joseph Harlan MOUTRAY 11. Francis Marion 1853-1933 m. Sarah Elizabeth KINWORTHY 12. Thomas Jefferson 1855-1936 13. Coke Brickey 1857-1861 14. a male b & d. 1859 Posey Sr. WOODS had at least three siblings: Samuel, John Wesley, & Gemima. I do not know the parents of these WOODS siblings at this time. james wall

    3. Bethany (Woolsey) HOPKINS, widow of William H. HOPKINS married Patrick PHEAY in Crawford Co., MO., 3 January 1869. Their son, Elijah Pheay was born abt. Dec. 1869 since he is listed as as 9/12 yrs. in the 1870 census for Crawford Co.. The census taker called at her home on 23 Aug. 1870. Mr. Pheay was not listed as being in the home. There is a possibility that Mr. Pheay died in an accident while Elijah was a young child. Does anyone have information on this man, documentation of his death, place of burial, parents? Bethany was the father of Levi HOPKINS who was editor of the Crawford County Mirror at the time of his death in 1920. Bethany and William "Blind Bill" HOPKINS" were my gr. gr. grandparents. 1. [MOCRAWFO] Catherine GILMORE and William FERGUSON - married 28 Oct 1793, Albemarle Co., VA
    2. Sharon Clark
    3. Hello, I decided not to give up on my Fergusons, and to try again. I have submitted my Ferguson/Gilmore information to Worldconnect at Rootsweb. I did not include my notes, so if anyone wants additional information, you will need to contact me. I am hoping I receive lots of requests for information. This information is located at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sharonclark1943&id=I1 I need to look at the Albemarle Co., VA tax lists between 1793 and about 1807. Is ordering them from the LDS the only way to see them? Has anyone published those tax lists, either on a CD or in a book? Catherine was the daughter of Frances "Franky: EUBANK and Joseph GILMORE of Albemarle Co. She and William and their children left Albemarle Co. about 1807 and moved to Sumner Co., TN, and then around 1810 they moved to Barren Co., KY. That part of Barren Co. became Allen Co. in 1815. William was listed on the 1810 Barren Co. tax list and Catherine was listed in 1811. They lived on Walnut Creek. I recently found William Ferguson on a web page at Worldconnect and this person showed that he died from cutting his knee with a broad axe. I didn't know this. I wrote the person who posted this information and asked where he/she got it, but I got no response. I just assumed he had gotten sick and died, but apparently it was from an accident. Three of their children moved to from Allen Co., KY to Crawford Co., MO: Elizabeth Ferguson Merritt Richey, Obadiah Ferguson, and Rev. William G. Ferguson. My ancestor, their daughter Frances Ferguson Spillman, moved to Hickory Co., MO around 1850-1853, and died 22 Feb 1859. If anyone has any information on these folks, please contact me. I have been looking for these folks since 1990 and can't find them. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]

    3. Hello, I thought I would share the obituary of Cledis R. Ferguson with you. I received it today from the Houston, TX Public Library. I was hoping it would have some information in it that would help me find some of his kids, but as you can see, it has nothing. I already had these names. I was hoping to find a male to participate in the Ferguson DNA study. Here is the obituary: Houston Chronicle, Section 2, Page 7, April 1, 1983: Cledis R. Ferguson, 59 of Porter, passed away Wednesday. Survivors: Wife, Carol Ferguson; daughters, Kathleen and Jacqueline Ferguson; sons, Daniel and Michael Donoven, Richard, Gene, and James Ferguson; mother, Mrs. Nellie Ferguson; two sisters; four brothers; numerous other surviving relatives. Services 11:00 Saturday, Brookside Chapel. Interment Brookside Memorial Park. Brookside Funeral Home, Eastex Freeway at Lauder Road, 449-6511 I have put all of these names in Switchboard.com and also Yahoo People Find, and I have no idea which ones they might be. Cledis was the son of Nellie Cook and Eugene Ferguson of Crawford Co., MO, and a descendant of my 4th g-grandparents, Catherine GILMORE and William FERGUSON, who were originally from Albemarle Co., VA Catherine and William married there 28 Oct 1793. They seem like such nice people, but I can't find any other soul trying to find them. You would think if Cledis had "numerous other surviving relatives" that at least one of them would care about family history. I get so depressed because I can't find these folks, or at least anyone who gives a hoot about them. I guess it's time to put them away for several years and then try again. I hope the rest of you are more successful than I am at finding Fergusons. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]

    1. [MOCRAWFO] MUNDAY/FERGUSON Marriage - 10 Dec 1892 - Crawford Co., MO
    2. Sharon Clark
    3. Hello, I am hoping one of you can help me out. First: I'd like to thank Brian J. Oster for the wonderful marriage information he has posted on his web page. I am attempting to look up all of the information he has on Ferguson marriages in Crawford Co. and I found some of my folks. One of my 4th g-uncles, Rev. William G. Ferguson, had a son, B. S. Ferguson, who was born 1835 in Allen Co., KY. I found a Bethuel S. Ferguson in Ozark Hills Friends and Neighbors, who died in 1866 and is buried in Steelville Cem. I assume that was B. S. who was the son of Rev. William G. Ferguson. I had some information from the IGI showing B. S. married a Jamison. I found some Fergusons living with Mary Jamison in the 1870 Crawford Co., MO census. She was dwelling 31-31 on page 644. The Fergusons were Margie, 27, female, white, MO, and ?Brittie?, 5, male. I could never really make out the son's name and was guessing at Brittie. I found her again in 1880, still living with Mary Jamison, but the son wasn't with them then. Today I found these entries in the marriage database: Page 164 of Crawford Co. Marriage Book: Bernil S. (Berl S.; Burls S.) Ferguson of Bland, Gasconade Co., MO; over 21; Arizona Munday of Cuba, Crawford Co., MO; over 18; 10 Dec 1892 license; married on 10 Dec 1892 by C. Brough, MG Cuba at Cuba, Crawford Co., MO. I am wondering if Bernil S. (or Berl S. or Burls S.) Ferguson could be the son of Ellen M. "Margie" Jamison and Bethuel Ferguson. If anyone has any information about these folks, I'd be so happy to hear from you. Thank you. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]

Apparently Eugene's obituary mentioned Delmar as being his son. Eugene died 3 Jun 1976 in St. Louis, MO, and is buried in Fairview Cem., Butts, Crawford Co., MO. Eugene was the g-grandson of Elizabeth ATWOOD and Rev. William G. FERGUSON, who was the son of my 4th g-grandparents, Catherine GILMORE and William FERGUSON. I am trying to find a living male Ferguson descendant of this couple to participate in the Ferguson DNA study, and I'm hoping Delmar is still alive and/or has sons who would be interested.
