I wish I were close, I'd help.. but have you checked with the Family History centers (Mormon Church).. They have gone to most all courthouses as far as I know and microfilmed.. Then you can go to your nearest center and order these microfilm. I get my record copies that way.. Ellie S.
I wrote to the historical society to no avail, so I will try this approach. We need volunteers to go to the courthouse and transcribe records. When I first started doing my family history I was able to go to the courthouse in Illinois and search out anything I needed. I even got copies of birth records. At that time they were an "open record state". Now you have to fill out an application for anything you want searched out. I do not know if there is a search fee, but it was almost as time consuming as the drive. I am afraid if we do not get what we can while we can other states may follow, considering the present state of affairs.
Oak Ridge Cemetery might be Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery, or it might be very close to Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery (within 1,000 ft - and probably NW of it), or the cemetery you are looking for may be entirely different. Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery is almost 9 miles west of Steeleville. Too bad, I have Oak Hill on video and will transcribe it soon. I can't help you with the cemetery, but I can tell you where Oak Ridge School was, just west of Steelville. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Subject: > Cemetery > From: > "Patricia Vandergriff" <pasqual[email protected]> > Date: > Wed, 12 May 2004 11:17:43 -0500 > To: > [email protected] > > >I recently sent a message ask where Oak Hill Cemetery was. >That was a mistake. I recently sent a message ask where Oak Hill Cemetery was. That was a mistake. The name of the cemetery is Oak Ridge. It should be somewhere around Steelville. Sorry for any inconveinence this has caused. Thanks for any help with directions to the cemetery.

I bought the book and my sister paid for it till I could get her paid back. I let her read it first and when I went to get it and pay for it, she said no, it was hers and would not take my money:) She went through (she was 77 years old) and wrote along the edges any errors she found and added what she knew. She would sit in the evenings as she lived alone and read it as she knew a lot of the people in it. She died this week. She really enjoyed that book. Maybe I can buy another and borrow that one from the daughters and add the footnotes that she put in:) Juanita Jones Johnson
Hello, Please disregard my last message. I found the answer to my question when I read Winnie's reply and I went to Ken's web page. It's a biography-type book. I think I saw a copy of it at the Dallas, TX Public Library a few years ago. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX
Hello, Jackie in Jeff City wrote inquiring about this book. Can anyone tell me anything about this book? Is it a history book; an obituary book, or what? Thank you, and have a great weekend. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]
Jackie, Try Ken Fiebelman's store; read about it here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pinnell/kensbks.htm Good luck to you! ----- Original Message ----- > Where can I buy the book Crawford Co. MO. 1829-1986 either by mail or when I visit Crawford Co.? > > Jackie in Jeff City
Where can I buy the book Crawford Co. MO. 1829-1986 either by mail or when I visit Crawford Co.? Jackie in Jeff City
If the obit you want is not already online, you can order the microfilm from the State Historical Society, which actually has more Crawford County Newspapers than the library has. They charge for shipping and you get it for two weeks. Contact your local library. Or they can do the lookups for you, their link is also on the main page for more information. The Steelville Crawford Mirror started May 4, 1872. If you go with the library idea, the Cuba Library is really your only choice, that is is their copier is working. On Clarence you can probably call or write to Britton Brothers's Funeral Home. They probably have that on file, if they did the funeral. > Subject: How to Get Obituaries from Crawford Co.???? - Clarence FERGUSON > Date: Sat, 01 May 2004 19:38:26 -0500 > From: Sharon Clark <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > > Hello, > > Can anyone please tell me how to get an obituary from Crawford Co.? Hello, Can anyone please tell me how to get an obituary from Crawford Co.? Can I send some money to the library and get one? I am trying to find some living descendants of my 4th g-grandparents, Catherine GILMORE and William FERGUSON, who married 28 Oct 1793 in Albemarle Co., VA. Three of their children moved to Crawford Co., MO: Elizabeth FERGUSON MERRITT RICHEY, Obadiah FERGUSON, and Rev. William G. FERGUSON. I found Anna and John R. FERGUSON in the 1920 Crawford Co. census, Courtois Township, and it showed they had 3 sons: Jewel M., 8 Joseph D., 6 Clarence H., 2 years 9 months. I found Clarence L. Ferguson in the SSDI, born 2 Nov 1918, died 13 Jul 1997 in Steelville, Crawford Co., MO. I couldn't find Jewel or Joseph in the SSDI. I am hoping to find an obituary for Clarence, and I am also hoping he was the son of Anna and John R. Ferguson. John R. was the son of Mary Osburn and Simeon Ferguson, and Simeon was the son of Elizabeth Atwood and Rev. William G. Ferguson. If anyone can help me with how to get this obituary, I will be so grateful. Also, if anyone knows anything about these Ferguson families, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]
