They do have records in Crawford County MO, but Missouri didn't have a requirement for birth records before 1910, I think. My own father was born in Dent Co, MO in 1930 and has no birth record. My great-grandparents were married in 1900 in Crawford County but I had to go look in their marriage license book to find the record. There may be an index around but I'm not sure of that; will check my lists to see what I've got. I have one starting about 1893 in Dent County and another similarly dated one for Maries County but they are indexes only; not the actual records. I'll try to post a list of the indices I have got this weekend, and I'll do lookups from them for anyone needing to check them. Sincerely, Barbara Liedtke in Colorado Springs ([email protected])

The State Archives in Jefferson City are not aware that there were and Birth Records in Crawford County prior to 1900, so they were not added to their database. As a matter of fact, if you called the courthouse today, they will tell you they have none, because they are not aware they exist. I transcribed these records myself and Leslie Hanby proofread and added the Stillbirth section from all available records at the courthouse. They are at the Record's Office. You can go to the Crawford County Archives site and use the search engine at the top of the page, or click on birth records and scan the files which were copied and alphabetized. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/crawford/crawford.htm#marriages
If you go to that same web page, down a little ways, you will see [ Listing of Available Records Search] I did a search for Crawford County to see what records were available. They don't have any Crawford County records. Therefore, you can't do a search for that county. To find out what laws there were for births and deaths, go to http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/bdrecords.asp I hope this helps. Does any body have any information on Maranda Reeves who married a Hogan? Thanks, JV
Does anyone have any information on Thomas Martin Baker, brother to William Johnson "Johns" Baker? I am looking for his first wife and mother of his daughters, Allie and Grace Baker who were born in the 1890's. I am not sure if the girls were his, or if they were step daughters. The 1900 census showed him as single. The 1910 census shows him as divorced with his two daughters daughters. He later married Alma McGrath in 1915. Thanks, JV
Does anyone have any information on a Lucy Catherine Miranda Reeves? I found this person in the LDS data base. It said her parents were Jesse Jefferson and Susannah Reeves. I doubt this because her birth date conflicts with other children the Reeves had. Thanks, JV

Can anyone tell me why we cannot search for "Crawford" county in the Missouri Birth & Death Records (online searchable) Database at: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/default.asp What alternatives are there? Is it correct that there were no county requirement to record births, deaths, and marriages before the 1900's? Could people be married without a license at home by a preacher? Could people be born and die with a county certification? Thanks, JV
I ask where Oak Ridge Cemetery was in Crawford County. I received several replys with excellent information. Thanks to all of you who helped me. Patty
