Melodee, You send me a request via private e-mail plus I see that you posted to the List as well. I'm going to reply to your List posting so that the information will be preserved in archives for benefit of future researchers. I found the following individuals listed as being buried in Keysville Cemetery, but listing indicates that they are buried in unmarked graves, therefore, they have relied on obits as proof that they are supposedly buried there: KEY: OBITUARY: Elizabeth Key wife of Thomas Key and daughter of Rev. G. W. Dobbs, died of consumption Monday morning July 20, 1891. Mrs. Key leaves three children, the oldest six years of age. KEY: OBITUARY: Thomas Elijah Key was born as Kaysville (sic) Missouri October 12, 1856, and died April 27, 1932. At the age of 76 years, 6 months and 15 days. He was married in 1885 to Miss. Telitha Dobbs who died about the year of 1890. To this union three children were born: Lester Thomas, Zelma, Mae. Zelma died in 1913. May died in 1925 and Lester Thomas is the only living child. His second wife formerly Mrs. Jennie Sites whom he married in 1905 and who bore him no children. Thomas E. Key was for many years postmaster and station agent at Keysville. KEY: OBITUARY: Eunice Jamison Stanford was born February 7, 1857 and died on May 9, 1933. She had reached the age of 76 years, 3 months and 2 days. On December 14, 1876, she married James H. Sites who died April 16, 1910. Five children were born to them as follows: Russell Sites, Mrs. J. T. McMillen, Charles E. Sites, John M. Sites and Curtis E. Sites who died in childhood. In 1914 she married Thomas E. Key of Keysville, he died April 27, 1932. [Melodee, I typed the above marriage dates exactly as they are published even though they conflict.] Possibly Related?: Listed as having tombstone: KEY: ELIJAH May 20, 1809-May 8, 1888 - Elijah Key was the son of Elijah and Sarah Collins Key. He was one of nine children. He had a twin brother William. MATILDA Oct. 20, 1819 - Oct. 10, 1874 - Matilda was wife of Elijah Key. [Related to William Elijah above?] Melodee, there are other Key graves listed in this cemetery which you didn't specifically request. Would you like me to list them all for you, and any other graves which appear to be connected to the Key family? If so, just let me know and I can do that for you. Here is the history of Keysville as contained in "Cemetery Records of Crawford County, Missouri by Helen Marie Wright" which was published along with cemetery listing: HISTORY OF KEYSVILLE Among the sixty three settlers who were already living in Crawford County in January 1829, eleven of them had settled in the vicinity of Keysville. Four of the families were Keys, hence it was natural that the place be called Keysville. The earliest settler was Obadiah Key. He came with his young bride from Kentucky. They first settled briefly in Washington County, Missouri but arrived in Crawford County in 1825. Obadiah's wife was Mary Carter and her relatives, the Carters were among the pioneer settlers. Obadiah Key became a useful citizen in the Keysville community. He served as county judge and magistrate, bot positions of trust in the early days. Keysville4 had its beginning on the south banks of Crooked Creek across and not far from the present site. It was first called Old Elm Tree, an unusual name, but called such from the present of a very large wife spreading elm tree at that site. > Obituary lookup- Crawford County( Keysville) I am looking for death or > obit > information on these individuals 1{ Thomas E Key, husband of Teletha( > Letha > ) Dobbs- they were married 9-2/1885 2) Teletha or Letha C Key Nee : Dobbs > 3) William H Key( Keysville, Crawford) Husband of > Mary > A Key( Dobbs) 4) Mary A Key Nee: Doobs Thankyou > for > your time in looking up these names. hope you can find their information, > Have > a good day!!! Hello List- I have just discovered that 2 ancestors were married in Keysville, Crawfod Co Mo( apaarently both married brothers of the same surname( Key) Telitha C Married Thomas E Key September 2, 1885 and Mary A Dobbs married William H Key November 16,1887, I would like to know if the co unty recorder has these old marriages on file and what may cost for a plain copie. The girls parents names were George Washington Dobbs and Sarah Jane ( Campbell) Dobbs. I also wondered how I can located their birthdates. I would like to believe they were born in Kentucky. Thankyou in advance for any help!!! Melodee Slaney [email protected]
Melodee, E-mail, this address, they are great. Enclose the names, places and dates of the marriages you want them to find. They will let you know if they find the records. If they do, the cost is .50 each plus a large self-addressed envelope. That is for a copy of the marriage licenses. And yes, I did mean fifty cents. Reference Staff Missouri State Archives PO Box 1747 Jefferson City, MO 65102 (573) 751-3280 e-mail [email protected] website http://www.sos.state.mo.us/archives/ Also this is a great site to look up marriages for Crawford Co marriages. Your ancestors are there. Gracie http://www.vienici.com/default.htm

In some other records I have, I find a marriage license dated January 23, 1868 issued to John Keeney and Julia A. Mudd. Also, I have an 1840 Crawford County census which shows a John F. Mudd living in Liberty township. Bettye > Is there a publication of all of the persons buried in Steelville? Bettye - sorry for the error I realized I made - your info below specifies that James S. Trask's mother was Marvin's first wife. Again, sorry about that. Further in the info, a "Mrs. Lenz Johnson" of Ft. Scott, Kansas is actually the Lena Trask Johnson I mentioned a minute ago - Eugene's sister, James S.' half sister. Eleanor, I do find Eugene Trask (1855-1919) listed in Steelville City Cemetery. Listing also gives the following obituary: Eugene Trask was married to Miss Mary Johnson May 14, 1877. Nine children came to bless their home, eight of whom survive the father, Jorgen, Gladstone and Leslie; Mrs. C. E. Jamison, Mrs. N. M. Lawrence, Mrs. Nina Beeks, Mrs. E. O. Glover; and Marie Trask. Also listed right below him is listing for Elizabeth Dawson Trask, wife of Marvin W., Oct. 1, 1826 - June 19, 1897 age 70 years, 8 months, 18 days. Also, I find a listing at Steelville City Cemetery for a James Steel Trask who appears to be related to Eugene Trask. All that is given for him is obituary: James Steel Trask died at the residence of Mrs. Mary Achurch in Steelville on Sunday morning April 8, 1906 from heart failure. He had been a sufferer for a number of months with kidney trouble. He was son of the late Marvin W. and Alice Steen (?) Trask, and was born April 17, 1836, a brother of Mrs. Lavica Wood of near Steelville, a half brother of Mrs. G. S. McIntosh and Eugene Trask of Steelville, Mrs. Lenz Johnson of Fort Scott Kansas and Dr's J.S. and H.E.C. Trask of California. The funeral was conducted at the C. P. Church by Rev. W. J. Todd on Monday at two o'clock. The interment took place at Steelville cemetery. Bettye > Sorry, forgot to ask if someone could tell me if Eugene Trask is buried > in Steelville? -----Original Message----- From: ELEANOR McCAIN [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, September 01, 2004 10:34 AM To: 'B. Warner' Subject: RE: [MOCRAWFO] more Steelville cem. Thank you, Bettye - Glad to get the obit, as well, I didn't have one. Eliz. Dawson Trask, was the 2nd wife of Marvin W. Trask, mentioned below, & was the mother of Eugene and James S. In addition, a sister, Lena Sabina or Sabina Lena Trask married Mary Johnson's brother, Nelse Johnson. Nelse was born Nelse Jorgensen, Mary was born Mary Jorgensdatter (in Denmark) and they were siblings of my grgrandfather Robert P. Johnson, who married, by the way, Mary Jane Harper, sister-in-law of John S. Mudd. So the end result is that Eugene Trask and John S. Mudd were brothers-in-law - and all of this took place in Crawford Co.!!!! So, if you or anyone else on the list, run across any of those names anywhere, I would love to hear about it. So far I cannot link Mary Jane Harper to any of the Crawford Co. Harpers (she was born in Washington Co., I believe) - I have tried as have several other Crawford Co. researchers. But I decided to "make an end run", as they say - try a new approach. Thanks again for your assistance. Eleanor -----Original Message----- From: B.
