The State Journal, Jefferson City, Missouri, Friday, April 18, 1879 Friday night about 11 o'clock a young woman named Emma Speich, about 20 years of age, died at her residence on Main Street, from what can really be said to be a broken heart. About a year ago the girl was seduced by a young man named Doc Bush, she claimed. In a short time she became in a delicate condition and a warrant was sworn out and Bush was arrested, and a hearing of the case was had before Squire Johnson; but it was finally sent up to the Circuit Court for trial. The young girl went to her home and almost went wild over the affair. About three or four weeks ago she gave birth to a child. After the birth of the child the poor unfortunate girl was continually asking for Bush to come to see her, and it is said her moans and sobs were heartrending to hear. Word was sent to Bush three times to come and see her, as it is thought the girl would get better if she could see and talk with him; but he came not, and the poor betrayed girl continued to mourn and weep, until her reason left her and she became wild and raved and mourned for Bush until the time above stated, when death ended her sufferings and she died a truly broken hearted girl. Considerable indignation is manifest against Bush for not going to see the girl, and it is said the girl's parents will commence proceedings against him at once for the support of the child.
