The State Journal, Jefferson City, Missouri, June 6, 1879 Died - In this city on the 31st day of May, J.R. Ferguson, age 65 years. Mr. Ferguson was born in Nelson County, Ky. And removed to this state with his father while yet but three years old. He grew to manhood, was married and lived in Callaway, near Cedar City all his life, till five years ago when he removed to this city. His disease was a lingering one. He has been confined to his bed for several months past. He leaves five children, a brother Tommy Ferguson, of Barkersville, and a sister, Mrs. Dunnica, of Texas, to mourn his loss. Mr. Ferguson was one of the most highly respected citizens of this part of the State. His life has been active and useful. For the past few years he has been a great sufferer. The loss of his wife several years ago was an affliction from which he has never recovered. He has reared a family of highly respected children; he has gone to the grave with the consciousness of a well-spent, honored life. Mr. Ferguson will be buried in the grave yard on the bluff overlooking Cedar City. The funeral services will be at Shiloh Church, in Cedar City, at 2 o'clock p.m. today. The funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. Mr. Goodby, of the M.E. Church South. All friends invited to attend. The boat will leave this side at 1 o'clock.
