    3. Tim: What might be of some little interest is the fact that the Rakers in Shelby County IL (Oconee) and the Rackers in Cole County MO are directly related. I just finished 12 years of research and have printed a history book of the Rakers families beginning ca 1650 to the arrival of the Rakers in Oconee IL, and Jefferson City, Taos and Wardsville MO. I am now researching a second book taking the families from their arrival in America to the year 2000. Bob Rackers Jefferson City MO

    1. [MOCOLE] Tim Casey Mail List Administrator
    2. Tim Casey
    3. To: All Subscribers From: Tim Casey Mail list administrator Subject: 2007 I would like to wish you all a fruitful 2007. I have alot of irons in the fire, and I do not respond as quickly as I should. I am a mail list administrator for many counties most are in Southern IL and I am also the Southern Region ILGenWeb Regional Coordinator for 27 counties. All mail lists I have are great , you the subscribers do a great job helping each other, Johnson, Shelby, Union, Randolph, Montgomery in IL and Cole Co MO all these I have had for a time. I have now become Perry Co IL , Edwards Co IL and Wabash Co IL mail list administrator. I take orphaned county message boards. I have Cole Co MO, Union Co IL, Johnson Co IL, Randolph Co IL, Bond Co IL, Shelby Co IL , Lee Co IL and now Edwards , Wabash Co IL. I will be trying to Gateway the Ancestry.com message boards to the county mail lists With Rootswebs new mail system you have to be a subscriber to the mail list , NOW I get alot of spam in the mail list, you do not see this because I have to go to the mail list page and reject them, many of these spammers now use genealogy terms to get your attention so I have to open it to see if it is legite email to the county mail list. I have never been the MAIL POLICE that is I do not intervene much reason being we have no problems, but we do get new subscribers and sometimes the old subscribers need a update. I want you all to remember the following when emailing any of the MAIL LISTS. 1. Subject of your email must be about the COUNTY you are emailing if it is SHELBY CO IL your subject MUST BE ABOUT SHELBY CO IL and should be in the text of your message this goes for every County. 2. How important is your SUBJECT LINE of your email , DO NOT USE ROLL CALL , type in your SURNAMES in the SUBJECT LINE. Myself I do not want to go thru 100 messages named ROLL CALL , I do want to read messages such as CASEY, MOORE, TOLER. if the SUBJECT is a location type the LOCATION in your subject line PERRY CO IL HISTORICAL SOCIETY or AMERICAN LEGION CEMETERY, DONGOLA IL. 3. MOST IMPORTANT Genealogy is not just what happend 100 years ago in your county it is what happened yesterday, today, births, annoucements, deaths , etc. are all part of genealogy and each counties history. Use the County mail list for that , if you need to reply to an annoucement EMAIL that person personally NOT THE LIST. 4. IF you have found links that you feel would help others in their research please email them to the list in the SUBJECT LINE type NEW RESEARCH LINK . Remember all the mail lists get archived example: IF you type in Roll Call , Edwards Co IL, you will see all messages named Roll Call. Now if you type in Casey, Montgomery Co IL , you will see messages archived with the name Casey. I hope you all find that ancestor or descendant , that you have been looking for, I know you will read all this as constructive advice on OUR mail lists that we are subscribers to. IF you need to email me on anything in this message please do my email address is timcasey5@verizon.net in your subject line TYPE your County Mail list. Example IL UNION MAIL LIST Tim Casey

I know of a clock in my family that was brought from Cole County, Missouri to Carson County, Texas during that period. 1. [MOCOLE] obituary for grandparents
    2. Hi, I'm hoping for an obit from the newspaper. I have the dates of death but that's all. I'm hoping to get more detailed info from a newspaper obit. I'm interested in my great-great-great grandfather Johann Nicolas Korn who sometimes went by the name of Nicolas Korn/Corn. It seems that prior to 1880 they used the Corn and after used the Korn. Anyway he died April 1879 and is buried in Riverview-thank you Nancy for that info- and he was born in 1795. On the 1850 census his wife was Marguerite and two sons but at the time of his death he had a new wife named Verina and one new son. But one of the original sons can no longer be found. Did Missouri have an epidemic around then? I haven't started to research his wife my great-great-great grandmother. Next is my great-great grandfather, Wolfgang Corn/Korn. He died February 14, 1886. The only information I have on him comes from the census. But I saw on Ancestry when he was mentioned in an Audrain paper by his father in law, Schneider. So I feel an orbit of his may give me further information on my great-great grandmother Rosina Schneider. Thank you in advance Sharon Amico Family names-Korn/Corn-Gerber-Koetting-Schneider-Veismann

I don't know if they do look-ups or not. 1. [MOCOLE] Pat Norton - death notice
    2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. The State Journal, Jefferson City, Missouri, June 6, 1879 Pat Norton - Divided in Halves He was a section hand-had been employed on the work train, as he said. Sunday night found him in the city and in the custody of Marshal Jobe for drunkenness. Two nights and a day in the cooler sobered him, but did not sufficiently enrich him to pay that little bill of $5 fine and costs the Recorder footed up against him. He was accordingly liberated Tuesday morning. He gave his name as Pat Norton. The next seen of him he made application at the depot for a pass to Franklin. Shortly after his head was seen sticking out of a water tub on the Sedalia water train. Presently he emerged from the tub and took a seat on the end of one of the platform cars. In this position he was observed by brakeman Chandell. The cars were being switched backwards and forwards, and Chandell told him if he did not sit back he would get jerked off and hurt. He was sitting directly over the trucks Chandell had scarcely given the warning when a sudden lurch of the train threw him from his seat. He fell squarely across the track and the trucks passed directly over his middle, crushing him in twain. In twenty minutes he was dead. The coroner was summoned, an inquest was held and a verdict in accordance with these facts. The accident happened about 3 o'clock.

    1. [MOCOLE] Emma Speich - obituary
    2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. The State Journal, Jefferson City, Missouri, Friday, April 18, 1879 Friday night about 11 o'clock a young woman named Emma Speich, about 20 years of age, died at her residence on Main Street, from what can really be said to be a broken heart. About a year ago the girl was seduced by a young man named Doc Bush, she claimed. In a short time she became in a delicate condition and a warrant was sworn out and Bush was arrested, and a hearing of the case was had before Squire Johnson; but it was finally sent up to the Circuit Court for trial. The young girl went to her home and almost went wild over the affair. About three or four weeks ago she gave birth to a child. After the birth of the child the poor unfortunate girl was continually asking for Bush to come to see her, and it is said her moans and sobs were heartrending to hear. Word was sent to Bush three times to come and see her, as it is thought the girl would get better if she could see and talk with him; but he came not, and the poor betrayed girl continued to mourn and weep, until her reason left her and she became wild and raved and mourned for Bush until the time above stated, when death ended her sufferings and she died a truly broken hearted girl. Considerable indignation is manifest against Bush for not going to see the girl, and it is said the girl's parents will commence proceedings against him at once for the support of the child.

    1. [MOCOLE] Albert Walther - obituary
    2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. The State Journal, Jefferson City, Missouri Friday, April 18, 1879 Tuesday morning, April 15th, of pneumonia, Mr. Albert Walther, in the 57th years of his age: Mr. Walther was one of the most highly respected citizens of the county, and the news of his death will cast a shadow of gloom and regret over the heart of everyone who knew him. It seems incredible that death has claimed him, so hale, hearty and vigorous a man was he. He was a kind and good man, and was honored by all his neighbors as a man above reproach and without a stain upon his character. He is the elder, we believe of the honored family of Walther brothers, of whom Judge Walther, of the county court is a member. His funeral will take place at 3 o'clock this afternoon from his late residence near the railroad bridge, across the Moreau.
