I am doing and have done much research on all the Leslie(Lasley) family as I am a direct decendant of the first leslie (lasley) and Hutchinson family who came from Ireland and Scotland.. I am reading a book from 1938 on President Andrew Jackson who was a cousin to our Leslie line. Below is some info on William and Margaret Leslie. William and Margaret Leslie come to Missouri in 1835 and settled in Old Cole County now the county of Moniteau. At one time William owned 900 acres. He was the fourth child. He was a farmer and a casket maker. His claim to fame is that he raised 19 children and they all lived to adulthood married and had children. The William Leslie genealogy book is in the Missouri Historical Society in Columbia, MO and Cole County Historical Society in Jefferson City, MO. He raised one foster son and three step children, Ben Hardin, William J. Hardin and Mary Hardin Nance. He was the brother of Margaret Leslie, my great, great grandmother. --------------- . . . . . The family stayed in Indiana for two years before moving to Missouri. The first stop was St Louis for two years and then to Cole County. From there, the family moved to Cass County.(8) We know that Nancy and Jane are sisters because we see them listed together in the Holderman Household on the Bates County, Missouri 1880 Census. We know that Alexander, Wilson and Robert Norris are brothers because of the History of Bates and Cass County entry. Finally, we can connect all of the siblings and parents because of the 1850 Cass County Census and the History of Boone County, Missouri entry. Sources 1. There is other detailed information available about some of the family members from other Feely Researchers and myself, including marriage records, land records, children, etc. If you have questions about this family please ask your question using this message board to give the other researchers a chance to answer and give their personal email address if they wish. We can account for all the Males numbered on the 1830 Census but not the Females. My "feeling" is that there are two more daughters, based on the 1830 Census. Both daughters would have been born between the years 1806-1815 according to the marriage date of John and Jeanie and the females ages listed on the 1830 census. It makes sense that three of the daughters are gone by the 1840 census because they are easily old enough to be married. (note: Nancy married in 1833) If you have information about one of these daughters, please respond but also list your source or tell why you believe this particular Feely is a daugther of this family. There are several other females we are evaluating but further research is needed. My Phibbs family history says that John Phibbs, son of David and Nancy Feely-Phibbs was born in Tippacanoe County, Indiana. There was a lot of movement by the Feely family from Ohio to Indiana. There are land records and census records of William Feely in Indiana. Is this the William Feely that is listed on the 1830 Brown County, Ohio census? Historical documents from Jackson Township, Brown County, Ohio, 1834-William Feely is a trustee for Jackson Township. In 1837-In notes from a meeting about the organization of roads, there is a reference to "the old William Feely place". Leading me to believe he moved on to Indiana sometime between 1834 and 1837. Obviously this is speculation and still must be proved. Regarding William Feely: Is there a relation to John and Jeanie Feely? (Further evaluation needed) Who are the parents of John Feely? Early Tax Records, Military Records, Court Records from this area of Ohio, (formerly the Virginia Military District) make mention of a couple of Feely's, Timothy Feely (Officer who served in the American Revolution) and Michael Feely who we are almost 100% certain are related to one another because of evidence in probate records. Are one of these men related to John? (Further evaluation needed) Does this Feely family connect to the Belmont County, Ohio and/or Washington County, Pennsylvania Feely families? (Further evaluation needed) One last question: Does anyone have any information about Harrison Feely? Again, I hope this information serves to be valuable in your Feely or other family research. There has been lots of speculation about this family and now we can be certain of the relationships. Please be careful not to speculate as fact in your posts and always provide the sources for information.
