Robert James, was a physician or not. According to "History of Clay and Platte Counties", he was one of several men went to California in 1850. The stories of bad luck from those who went a year earlier were unheeded. All they listened to were the stories of lucky strikes and finds. Robert James wrote a letter to the Liberty Tribune en route and it was still preserved in their files at the time of the books publication (1885). I don't know if it was preserved to the current day. Robert James died not long after his arrival to CA. He died at Rough and Ready in August, 1850. Another site you may try is: http://www.pipeline.com/~richardpence/ The Pence family lived near the old James farm in Clay County and one of his relatives died in CA with Rev. James. Richard Pence has a place where you contact him direct at his site. To call him a genealogist would be an understatement. I know he has info and photographs of the James family. Best of luck. Chuck

I understand his father was a physician in Clay Co. at one time. I have a connection to a James family, in Ky. back to Virginia and on back to the east coast, New Jersey. Those James members married into the Parker family and there were Parkers in Clay and Ray Counties. Can anyone help?? thank you, scarlett1@bwsys.net

I am looking for an obituary for Zerilda (Serilda) Jane Dale, died April 29, 1967 and also for her son, Riley Dale, died January 14, 1934. 1. [MOCLAY] ANSWERING EMAILS
    2. I have been visiting several Family Trees through my membership in Ancestry.com and have written many emails to the person who set the tree up. I have received replies from some but not others. None, so far have been returned to me saying they must still have the same screename. I always write back when they are kind enough to respond whether it be negative or positive. I think if people would respond even if it were a negative response that helps us through our research process. Just thought I would propose this and encourage the response to emails. Vivian James

VAUGHN (DECEASED) (Vicinity of Blue Eagle). I Mr. Vaughn lost his life in the Southern army in 1862. He was an orderly sergeant in Reeves’ regiment, and was severely wounded at the battle of Pea Ridge, and died of his wound at a hospital in Arkansas. Mr. Vaughn had been a resident of Clay county for some 10 years prior to the war. He came to this county from Kentucky with his family and engaged in farming. He was a man of marked intelligence, good general education, and a thoroughly energetic farmer. He made many friends here, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Mr. Vaughn was a prominent member of the Masonic Order, and took an active interest in the welfare of the Order. He assisted to organize several lodges in this vicinity of country. His widow is still living, and resides on the homestead with her two unmarried children. She was a Miss Mary T. Stewart, from Kentucky. They had five children: Francis J., Peterson S., Nancy E., Justin E. and Mary E. Mr. Vaughn and his wife were both born in Kentucky. Francis J., their eldest son, at whose instance this sketch is inserted, was born in the native county of his parents in Kentucky, and accompanied them to this State, and in 1861 joined the Southern army, but shortly afterward he was taken prisoner and confined at St. Louis for a time. He was then exchanged, and re-entered the Southern service. After the war he returned home and engaged in farming. He has a neat farm of 80 acres, and is comfortably situiated.

    1. Re: [MOCLAY] Miltondale

    3. Chris, I have it on two old maps I have of Clay. It appears to be an old RR town. It is located at Township 51 North, Range 50 West, looks like in Section 1. It is directly south of Excelsior Springs. Both maps show the railroad going south out of Excelsior Springs through Miltondale and joining east-west RR at what is called Excelsior Springs junction. Miltondale is south of Fishing River (the river) and the junction is due east on Missouri City. The east-west RR was called the Wabash RR, one of three in Clay on one map. The other map shows the route that goes north thru Miltondale as "Abandoned". I suspect there may still be a sign on the old tracks with the towns name, something common in the area. If you have a name, I could look at the Original Land Grants book I have to see if it is there.
