This book was published in 1885, so bear that in mind when reading subject info. JOSEPH E. FIELD (Farmer, Post-office, Liberty). Joseph E. is a nephew to Thomas Field, whose sketch appears in this volume and a son of Joseph T. Field, who came to this county from Virginia in 1838. Joseph Field, Sr., became a prominent farmer of the county and served two terms as a judge of the county court. He also quite successful in stock-raising. Judge Field’s wife was a Miss Amanda Brasfield before her marriage. Her parents were natives virginia. Judge Field died here in 1881. His wife, Joseph E. mother, is still living. Joseph E. , the fourth of their family of five children, was born in this county May, 6, 1855. His education when When he was a youth was concluded at William Jewell College. Having a reared on a farm he very naturally chose an agricultural life as favorite and permanent calling. Mr. Field has continued at the occupation of farming and also been engaged in raising and dealing in stock for some years. Although still quite a young man, he is rapidly coming to the front as one of the successfu! l farmers of Fishing River Township. He has a handsome farm, more than ordinarily well improved. His residence alone was erected at a cost of $6,000. His other improvements correspond with his dwelling. June 30, 1881, was married to Miss Annie M. Griffith, a daughter of James A. and Mary Griffith. Mrs. F. is a member of the Presbyterian Church. and Mrs. F. have two children, May L. and Amanda J.

It is hard to say if the line at the end of Field is a comma, a stray mark, or the end of a an s where the ink skipped. I had found a James E. Field in Clay Co., but with a land grant dated 3/1/1860, this would likely be a grandfather(?), 49 years having passed plus the age 21 to get a grant. Then in 1880 in Clay Co. there is a Joseph E. Field age 23 son of Joseph F. Field, but I so far only have the roll and page from an online index (T9-681, p.390D). I have not gotten to a set of Census microfilm to check any of this. But a candidate for Mr. J.E. Field. I also found a Joseph & Mary (no middle initials) Fields in Excelsior Springs City Ward 1 in the 1900 Clay Co. census, but have no idea yet if / how this might relate to Morse Ave. I suspect that Mary Elizabeth falls in that gray area of the 1890 census - she could easily have been born, married, and moved away to Arkansas in the period of 1880 to 1900.

Mary Elizabeth may be married at the time of this card, as I could not find a 1900 match in the Liberty (Clay Co.) census. It is unclear if the family last name is Field or Fields. The family would seem, from the hits on J.E. Field(s), to be from Liberty, Clay Co., MO. There were three towns named Liberty, but this seems to be the only one that had a post office. Postmarked Oct 20 1909, Clarksville, Ark. Photograph, with title line: #3756, Street Scene, Clarksville Ark. In the picture, there are wagons with bales of cotton passing in front of the May Brothers Store. There appears to be a church to the left of the store, possibly a street between them. Card dated Oct. 19, 1909 Addressed to: Mrs. J. E. Field(s) 109 Morse Ave., Liberty, Missouri Dear Mama, Received dress this (Tuesday) afternoon. I think it is beautiful. What's the matter with my letters from home - it's been a week tomorrow since I got a letter. Will not write to-morrow unless I hear as there is nothing new. We see such sights as this every day. You asked what names I'm researching--I'm mainly focussing on Shearer, Vaughn, and Livingston right now (but also have in-law ties to Tillery, Thorp and Davis). Are you familiar with any of these names? If you know of anyone who is, I'd love to talk about it. The person whose will I'm interested in is Willis Shearer. I've narrowed down his death date to within a year or two, so I hope it will be good enough to find his will. One of the microfilm I found at the library in Salt Lake had all the wills, except for the few years I needed. Of course. Thanks again for the info., I really appreciate it! Amy.

If they do not have one check with the Clay County Court House. Sometimes wills were written in I believe the old deed books the county has. I had one family member who had a old will written in those records, but I found it in a copy that someone else had already found... think it was deeds. They should have a name index on the records so if you have a name and time period they should be able to find it for you. The historical society might have a name index for the deeds, they have loads of records. What names are you researching?

He married # 2 Hettie Ann STUBBLEFIELD 1879, daughter of Absolom B. STUBBLEFIELD and Nancy Jane HARRIS. She was born 10 NOV 1862 in Knights Valley, Sonoma Co., CA, and died 30 JAN 1941. As a young wife Hettie Ann Stubblefield helped her husband make a home on a 100 acre rancho at LaGraciosa, now called Orcutt, Santa Barbara Co., CA. * * * * * In the 1810 Madison County Kentucky census we find a William Wilkinson who could be the father of "our" William b: 1780ish. But is gone in the 1820 census; There is a William Wilkinson in MO. Lincoln county Crab Orchard census. who we think could be William b: 1780ish? 1820 Lincoln County Kentucky Census Crab Orchard page 49 (only odd number pages-even #'s had slaves) Wilkinson, Lydia (mom of Wm.below)- 2 males 18-26; 1 female 16-26; 1 female over 45.[self] page 51 - about 7 families away Wilkinson, Will (Lydia's son)- (our Patriarch? b: c. 1780) 1 male under 10; Jeremiah b:1810 Crab Orchard, Rock Castle Co., KY 1 male 10-16; 1 male 18-26; 1 male 26-45; (self) (b:c. 1775-1794) 2 females 10-16; 1 female 16-26; 1 female 26-45. [Miss Cahorn b: (?) d: by 1826(?)] If this is our William b: 1780ish, then there are other full siblings to Jeremiah Wilkinson b: 1810. And remember the family story that William had two brothers. (& maybe two-three sisters, by looking at what could be his mother Lydia and family listed above.?) One of William's brothers was said to be a Doctor and also one of Jeremiah's half-brother's went to Ohio to study to be a Dr. John Wilkinson [s/o William Wilkinson X Unknown wife] graduated in medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Angela Oliver there and moved to Lexington, MO in 1847 where he became a farmer. He died of pneumonia in 1858. William b: c 1780 had a brother who was a doctor [in Ohio ?] and so perhaps John Wilkinson s/o William Wilkinson X Unknown wife went to live with the uncle to study medicine....lots of times they studied with a Dr as an apprentice and then took a test to get their license. My search is for the parents and siblings of WILLIAM WILKINSON b: c. 1780, who we place in Crab Orchard, [Lincoln Co./Rock Castle Co.,] 1810 for the birth of his first child. The next time we place him in MO 1837 for the birth of my Great-grandfather John Madison Wilkinson. I have noticed two possible cadidates as father for our William Wilkinson b: c.1780 in the information in KY: (1) JOHN WILKINSON Early Kentucky Landowners 1787-1811Lincoln County etc.............John Wilkinson list......... the lists goes thru 1811 in Lincoln county. (2) WILLIAM WILKINSON 1810 Madison County Kentucky census we find a William Wilkinson. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

She died on May 2, 1889 and was described as the wife of R. B. Popham and was age 52. This was in newspaper records of a local paper called the Bideford Gazette. Bideford is a small town on the coast of North Devon, England. There were lots of Pophams many of whom were Master Mariners and ships captains and travelled all over the world. There is also a birth announcement for the same family of a daughter born in Torronto on Sept 21st, 1875. Don'tknow if it's of any use or even the same family but feel free to use it. Best wishes, Lynne.

Here is what Benjamin Ricketts wrote: Benjamin Ricketts. Mr. R. H. Miller - In reply to your public solicitation, I make the following statements. I was born in Jessamine Co., Ky., July 29th 1801. I was raised to farming and have followed it ever since. I emigrated to Missouri in 1831 and settled in Clay county, where I now live; always made it a point to do good in preference to harm. Hae served the community with who I have lived in various petty civil offices; part of which I was Trustee of Common Schools, thirty odd years; Justice of the Peace, ten years; Justice of the County Court, four years. I have always been a Whig in politics; cast my first vote for President Henry Clay. I am a voter at present.

Folks who lived there were often buried in Odell Cemetery (Ray Co near Elkhorn), Fairview (Liberty, Clay co), New Hope (Liberty, Clay Co), Enon Cemetery (Ray Co), New Garden (Ray Co), Old New Garden (Ray Co), Pisgah (Excelsior Springs-in Clay I think), Crowley (Rayville, Ray Co), Moore (Clay). The terrain in much of this area is steep and rocky and was tough to travel in horse & buggy so where you were buried often depended on which side of the hills you lived on and what season (and year) it was. A good "rule of thumb" when looking for folks in Fishing River Twp is to check both Ray and Clay counties of Missouri. ----- History of the O'Dell Cemetery From the Daily Standard Excelsior Springs, Missouri August 19. 1936. Mrs. Jane O'Dell Warner deeded this spot of two and one-half acres on a pretty western slope to the county for a free burying ground for the public. There we do not need to "bargain for the graves we lie in" as the poet once said. No lots are sold. It is located 7 miles southwest of Excelsior Springs, Mo., a short distance from No. 10 Highway. The place forms a resting place for persons in the different walks of life. Several Civil War veterans such as John Woods, Jake Woods, Isaac Woods, Joseph Woods.
