    3. Hello, Does anyone know where Chandler, Missouri is? I cannot find it on my atlas. My great-uncle, Monte DALE had lived in Mosby and Excelsior Springs most of his life but died at the county farm in Chandler in 1957 and is buried there, according to my notes. I would like to find out how I might access records to learn more about when he came there. Monte had been a professional boxer and was apparently quite a colorful character around Excelsior Springs at one time and he is certainly one of the most colorful characters in my family tree so I would very much like to learn more about his life. Thank you! Christine Dale Iowa

I've seen her name as Lillie M. Moore & Susan M. Moore. I'm not sure which is correct and need to confirm that those two are the same person. Anyway, thanks again for responding so quickly. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hMB.2ACI/918.1.1 Message Board Post: Chuck, thanks for your reply. I am about half done reading the Clay county section of the mentioned book, which I checked out from the library. Last weekend, my wife and I drove to Minneville and found the entrance to Hughes road blocked with concrete barriers, and the road appeared long overgrown. I highly recommend a drive through this area if you enjoy plummeting into a world removed, a trip into the past. Aerial photography of the road shows that it is now nothing more than a faded trail, and the bridge over Big Shoal Creek is washed out. Minaville was alternately known as Lindenman. There is a road by that same name through town, and also a Doniphan Road, obviously named for Gen. Andrew Doniphan or one of his descendents. Here is an online map of Clay county in 1890: http://www.kclibrary.org/localhistory/zoom.cfm?ImageID=10358&action=go <http://www.kclibrary.org/localhistory/zoom.cfm?ImageID=10358&action=go> On this map, I have determined (gauging distance from marked streams) that a road leading north from Birmingham to Liberty follows the current approximate route of Hughes Road. This must have been a bustling route during the heyday of the railroad junction at Minaville, and the promise of archaeological and historical information around Hughes road is tantalizing. It's removed from the bustle of development, and the closing of the road can only help preserve any evidence of the past that may still linger. At the north end of the road, in southern Liberty, is a convent, but other than that, few business or homes are on this road. I have yet to drive this section of the road. Also, I had mentioned Daniel Hughes, but I actually meant Andrew Hughes, his ancestor. Thanks again. Brady Boyd

Here is some tidbits. Capt. Alpheus Boregard was born in Jackson County, VA, now West VA, Sept 10, 1834. Son of John and Sarah J. (Postlethwaite) Boregard, both Virginians by birth. John was born in 1789 and Sarah, 1787. After they married in VA, they went to Meigs County, OH in 1842, where they both died. Alpheus was raised in OH but went back to VA to have a storied military record during the war. Returned to OH after the war and in May, 1868 he moved to KC, MO. He moved that fall to Clay County where he became of farmer of 120 acres. Says he married in Feb. of 1865, but that has to be wrong. Says he married 1st in OH, a Eliza Hall, who died in 1860, leaving 3 children: Alice, John A. and Maxie Belle. His second wife was Mrs. Melissa Boone, to whom he was married in Spencer County, VA, Feb 12, 1863. She was the widow of Dr. D.G. Boone, who was killed at Spencer Court House, August 6, 1861, by Confederate troops. Nine children listed from that marriage: Willam H.C., Otto D., Ferdinand Desoto, Ad! a G and Maud are living (at print of 1885 book) and 4 were deceased (un-named in book). The rest talks about his Civil War history and his vairous trades before becoming a farmer. I hope to get my scanner/copier fixed soon. Hope this helps. Chuck McCardie

Surnames: Hughes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hMB.2ACI/918.1 Message Board Post: The 1885 book "History of Clay and Platte Counties" has very little on the town referred to as "Minaville, aka North Missouri Junction". It lists the township, range and section, states that it is 6 miles from Liberty were the Hannibal, St. Joseph and Wabash Railroads tracks formally connect. It says it dates it existence to about 1868. Population was 125 at the time of writing. I found an Ebenezer Christian Church at Minaville that was founded in 1865. Surnames listed as members were Foster, Stevens, Tipton, Brost, Lindenman and Gibbons. Pastors listed were Morton, Pickerall, Wollery and Waller. Other villages listed in the township include Barry, Harlem, Moscow and Arnold (or Blue Eagle). A map I have of Clay dated 1913 does not include Minaville and the RR mentioned above appear to connect near Birmingham. Another book I have on original land grants was published in 1966 with small maps of particular sections of Clay has Minnevillejust south of Birmingham but no roads are marked. Sorry not much help with your question. Chuck

There is an old road that is now partially closed called Hughes Road. It used to connect Liberty with Minneville & Birmingham. Does anybody know anything about the history of this road or this rural area? I'm wondering if the road was named after Daniel Hughes, who was one of the early big wigs in Clay County history.
