RICE and wife, Mary Elizabeth JAMES RICE. He was born about 1828 and died 1892 in Texas. His place of birth and parents are UKN. She was the daughter of H. F. and Fannie JAMES. The couple married abt. 1852 possibly in Boone County KY. They had at least 11 children, not all living to adulthood. At least 4 are said to have been born in or around Liberty in Clay County beginning in about 1863. They were William Herbert RICE, John G. RICE, Richard Emmet RICE, and Joel Virgil RICE with the possibility of others into the 1870s. This information is written in a letter dated 1890 from Mary Elizabeth JAMES RICE to her daughter, Fannie Howard RICE HEISKELL, who was in Washburn, Armstrong County, Texas at the time. This RICE family migrated south and settled for a time in Hays County Texas southwest of Austin near the communities of Kyle and Buda. Several family members are buried in this area. She was still alive 1940-1943, when my oldest sister visited her briefly. She lived all her married life in Kansas City, MO. If there is a death date or obituary, I may be able to find out if she had any children. I was told she had a son named Hugh, but I can't find anything on him.
