The son of Joseph and Nannie Jenkins Humes, he was born at Blandensville, Illinois on December 29, 1902 He married Rhea Roberta Stevenson at Macomb, Illinois, May 26, 1928 and she died March 12, 1974. Mr. Humes was a retired farmer. Surviving are five sons, LaVerne E Humes of Wyaconda, Joseph Asa of Wyaconda, Alfred L., Wyaconda, Ernest L., Wyaconda and James L of Lomax, Ill, three daughters, Mrs. Patricia A Varnold of Keokuk, Mrs. Dora C Fogle of Memphis and Mrs. Mary J Collier of Canton, three brothers, Hurle Humes, Cortney, N Dakota., Jake, Donnellson, Iowa, and John of Keokuk,; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Becker of Kirksville, Mrs. Darlene Karlson of Laharpe, Ill and Mrs. Betty Parsons, Argyle, Ia, 24 grandchildren and one great grandchild, other relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Irvin and Herbert, and two sisters, Hazel Garrett and Ada Roeglin and two grandchildren. Services were Wednesday at 2 pm at the Wyaconda Christian Church with the Rev William Harper officiating. Organist was Karen Hauptmann, singers, Sue Murphy and Linda St Clair. Pallbearers were Faron Fogel, Kevin Fogel, Chuck Collier, Mark Humes , Joe Humes and Dick Humes Arrangements were by Karle-Shaffer Funeral Home. POSTED BY A VOLUNTEER; NOT A FAMILY MEMBER
