It has been some years since I've researched at Kahoka, but the staff at the courthouse has always been friendly and helpful...You should also stop at the city library and the historical society, which, if I remember correctly, is across the street from the library. Be sure you don't go on Truman's birthday - it is a holiday in Missouri and nothing will be open. There are several restaurants, can't help on places to stay, but there should be some local people on the list who will respond. There is also a library in Canton that has a lot of northeast Missouri stuff, (or there used to be) if you have the time. Happy hunting. Connie Street ckcasey@louisacomm.net
The Lewis County Historical Soc. and Genealogical Library has a great deal of information on northeast Missouri families. They are located at 112 N. 4th St., Canton, MO, and are usually open from about 9 to around 3, Mon. thru Fri. It is run by volunteers, and before making a trip, you should call to make sure someone will be there. Their phone: 573-288-5713. I believe they also have a fax: 288-3513. Good Luck!
