JEREMIAH BUTT On Thursday night, July 28th, at the residence of her son-in-law John Marsh, north of Waterloo, occurred the death of Mrs. Jeremiah Butt, age 92 years. Mrs. Butt was born in Rockingham County, Virginia in 1795, married Jeremiah Butt in that state and subsequently moved to Kentucky. >From Kentucky they moved to Clark County and settled on the homestead, where he died, 53 (actually 47) years ago. Her husband died at 46 years ago (should read 48 years of age). The Deceased was perhaps the oldest person in Clark County at the time of her death. She retained faculties, almost unimpaired, to the last. Her remains were deposited in the family burying ground, on the Butts homestead, Friday. Three Daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren survive her. (Obituary NOTE: The above Nancy Ann Newton Butt was born 25 AUG 1795. Her husband, Jeremiah Butt, was born 11 OCT 1792, in Virginia and died in Clark County, Missouri on 10 FEB 1840………..) (Transcribers note: I have substituted the name BUTT for the original obituary spelling of BUTTS. I believe the newspaper used the incorrect last name for Jeremiah and Nancy BUTT.)
