I have a question about the cemetery in Athens, Clark County. I have had help with look-ups and I have personally been to the cemetery and walked the grounds looking for family members. I found several but still need to find my 4th gr grandmother Mary Ann Minear Sailor. Last known residence Clark County living with her daughter Nancy Bedell. Nancy died in 1874 and is buried in Athens Cemetery. Mary Ann Sailor died in 1879 at age 101+ but according to cemetery index is not buried there. I would like to know where and who I might contact about the cemetery records for burials which would include those buried without headstones. It appears to me that there are many graves not marked in this cemetery and I am in hopes that there are records. Please contact me with any ideas or info concerning the Athens Cemetery. Thank you very much. Peggy pegleg@ipa.net

Looking for information about Jefferson Brown living in Alexandria in Clark county from 1847-1882. Died in Keokuk IA in 1907, buried in Sands cemetery in Mo. Mother's name believed to be Charlotte. Jefferson married the widow Cobb in 1872.
Has anyone ever tried to research the names of Pony Express riders? As a child I was told some uncles had been riders and I would like to verify it. Also, can anyone with a Clark County Cemetery book and/or obituary information find a Micajah, Martha, Matilda, or Henry Weber burial site. There are several Webers in Fairmont but I don't believe these are. Micajah at one time lived southeast of Fairmont and died in 1882. Thanks for any help. Twila Stamper Siner

Hello Fellow Clark County Researchers, I was wondering if someone could please help me with some information on St. Francisville? My great grandmother was Mary Jane Kimball she was born in St. Francisville on December 23, 1853. I believe her mother or father was an American Indian. However, I do not know what tribe they belonged to. Does anyone know what Indian tribes were in that area around 1853? Thank you so much. Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season. Sincerely, Jennifer Hathaway Omaha, Nebraska hatjl@aol.com
Henry Bash of PA, Bourbon County KY, Jessamine County KY, Clark County MO; born 7 August 1776 PA; died 29 April 1853 Clark County MO; will dated 1 March 1844, proven 12 July 1853 Clark County MO He lived 1801-1813 Bourbon County KY; he then removed to Jessamine County KY where he lived 1814-1842; he then removed to Clark County MO where he lived 1842-1853. His wife's name is unknown. They must have married ca. 1800 and she was still alive in the 1840 census. Henry Bash's children and grandchildren intermarried with the children and grandchildren of the Rev. Rice and Sarah (Rohrer) Harris of Jessamine County KY and Clark County MO. Henry Bash's great-grandson James Bash Kennedy lived for a time with his kinsman Samuel Wheeler. They are found together in the 1870 census Logan County IL. Here comes the connection with the Wheeler and Hume families. George Fennell Wheeler (1781-1864) married 4 October 1801 Bourbon County KY: Elizabeth Proctor Hume (1782-1866). Amongst other children they had a son Amery Wheeler (1804- 1864 who married 25 December 1827 Grant County KY: Sarah Banks. Amery Wheeler clearly enjoyed close relations with the Rev. Rice Harris in both Jessamine County KY and Clark County MO. Amery Wheeler's son Samuel Banks Wheeler was the kinsman with whom James Bash Kennedy was living in Logan County IL. I'd be grateful to know whether has any clues to the precise connection between these families. It seems to me a real possibility that Henry Bash married a sister of George Fennell Wheeler or Elizabeth Proctor Hume. Does anyone know of any Bash affinities in these families or in courthouse documents? Many thanks for your help, and best wishes to you. Sandra Walter replied to me that maybe it was really Neeper and I tried to ask another question but the email won't go through. What I was wondering was, where Neeper is located in relation to Fairmont? Thank You Twila Siner
Greetings: I have three questions of historical interest that I have been unable so far to find an answer to so am throwing them out to this web site in hopes that someone might have an answer. Replies can either be sent through this Clark site or to me personally at the following URL: JW1408@AOL.COM The latter E-mail would probably be better so it wouldn't misuse the Clark-L list. 1. The Church building at the confluence of Clark and Montgomery St. was known to me as the "Colored Church" when I was growing up in Kahoka. What was the original denomation/lineage? 2. Was what is now Lincoln St. (street running N/S just east of the Court House) ever known by another name and if it was Court St. then is the present Court St. (E/W. Street running to the south of Court House) named the same at the same time? 3. Was the "Old Mill" located just two the Northeast of the Courthouse steam power? I have found references to a steam mill which I believe to have been the one at that location and my eye and limited knowledge of Civil engineering tells me that what was known as the mill pond to the North of the structure couldn't have been designed for running a water wheel but maybe a source of water for a steam power plant. Still trying to learn more about Winchester, Clark Co., MO. This would be a cemetery that was being used around 1850. Dose anyone have additional information on the cemetery described below? Copied from a couple of E-mails sent to me. Nov 18, 2000 "I was in MO in Oct and drove thru Winchester. We stopped at the Cemetery but didn't even try to look at markers. It is full of trees and tall grass and weeds like you said. The only evidence I saw that it was a cemetery was a wreath hanging on a corner fence post. We visited 3 other cemeteries . . . . " Sent E-mail to inquire for directions to the cemetery Nov 19, 2000 "I just happen to remember where it was from growing up one mile south of it. I walked right by it on the way to school/school bus and visiting friends. Remembered it is at a maximum maybe a 50' square, fenced, group of trees with no sign of tombstones that I could see. As you drive up from Highway 61, when the town of Winchester is on the right, the road curves to the left and then to the right. In about the middle of the curve to the right you take a gravel road to the left. It will curve a little to the right and straighten out. Right when it straightens out the cemetery is on the right and the gateway to the field is right after it - so close that the corner post of the cemetery is the gate post of the field." I need to find marriage info for two sisters living in Clark County. Doris Bedell married Carroll Wilson and her sister Neva or Neba also married a Wilson.....possibly brother of Carroll. Marriage dates about 1910 to 1925. Thank you for your help. Peggy pegleg@ipa.net
Does anyone know where Neipousi or Meipousi is or was in Missouri? My Great-Great-Uncle Edmunde Weber was born there in approximately 1837 to Daniel and Sarah Stafford Weber. It could be near Fairmont because that is where my Great-Grandmother Mary Elizabeth Weber (Stamper) was born in 1838 and where Daniel and Sarah and some children are buried. I was recently at the Fairmont cemetery and saw the graves of the Webers but could not find John and Mary Stamper or their son Ed who are also supposed to be buried there. I have a picture of Mary's stone so know it did exist. Twila rsiner@amel.tds.net
According to Geographic Names Information System, Waterloo is now Kahoka. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Kinkeade" <kinkeade@moscow.com> To: <MOCLARK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2000 10:42 AM Subject: [MOCLARK-L] Waterloo > > Greetings subscribers, > Does anyone know where Waterloo Missouri is? > Thanks. > Tim Kinkeade >
Waterloo was in Madison Township, east and north of Kahoka. It was located in the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 9 and on the Fox River. It was laid out as a town in 1836, but had almost disappeared by 1900. This is from "The Towns & Villages of Clark County, Missouri" by Jan Gross. Hope it helps. Barb
It is not listed in my zipcode book. It must not be a town anymore. If no one on the list can help you, see if there is a book of abandoned towns and post offices for Missouri. Iowa has one that is really helpful. It is also possible that the GenWeb site might have one. Again, I believe the Iowa GenWeb site has a listing of abandoned towns.
