    1. [MOCLARK-L] Phelps
    2. Frances Jensen
    3. I am looking for any information available to continue researching my grandfather's family. His name was John Walter Phelps, born in 1879 in Wyaconda, Missouri, to William Phelps and Mary Donahue. He had 4 older siblings: William Jr. (1867), Melissa (1869), Alice (1871), and Benjamin (1873) John Walter Phelps and his wife Lillie Dean Carter lived in Conway County, Arkansas, for most of their life together, and many years in Morrilton, Arkansas, although they both died in Little Rock, Arkansas. I can't find the family anywhere on the 1880 Census CD's. Thank you.

My ggg grandfather was Martin Duncan Pherigo, who was married in Clark Co., MO. in 1860. I have found his name spelled in various ways, including Perigo, Perrigo. There may be some connection. Your Justice appears to be of a later generation. Martin's brother Elija Pherigo moved to Putnam Co, and is buried in the Pherigo Cemetery there, along with some other Pherigos, but your Justice is not among them. Martin had several other brothers also, who may have been in the area. Can you tell me more about him being in Clark County? In the e-mail you sent after this one, you mention that you have information from a CD on the Perigo line. I would be interested in seeing what you have. 1. [MOCLARK-L] BUTT family burying ground
    2. Harold Morgan
    3. Can anyone offer any information about the BUTT family burying ground which is located on the BUTT family homestead in Clark County Missouri (NE 1/4 of Section 33, Twp 66N, Range 7W, Sweet Home Township)? I just returned from a couple of days research trip to Clark County and I found reference to the BUTT burying ground only after I returned home. (See the 1887 Nancy BUTT obituary which I just posted this site.) I did not find any reference in either the Library or the Historical Society Museum, but I did not ask while there. I must say that I was very pleased and impressed with the time and help that I was given by the County Court Clerk's office and the Historical Society's staff. I hope to return someday. My trip was very successful because of several nice people and I thank them. Harold Bishop Morgan hmorgan@evansville.net Jeremiah and Nancy BUTT are my ggg grandparents

    3. I invite your comments and correspondence about Nancy Newton BUTT or her family, Harold Bishop Morgan Transcribed by Harold Bishop Morgan hmorgan@evansville.net Obituary of Nancy Ann Newton Butt Clark County, Missouri, 1887 The Clark County Gazette Kahoka, Missouri Thursday, August 4, 1887 DEATH OF MRS. JEREMIAH BUTT On Thursday night, July 28th, at the residence of her son-in-law John Marsh, north of Waterloo, occurred the death of Mrs. Jeremiah Butt, age 92 years. Mrs. Butt was born in Rockingham County, Virginia in 1795, married Jeremiah Butt in that state and subsequently moved to Kentucky. >From Kentucky they moved to Clark County and settled on the homestead, where he died, 53 (actually 47) years ago. Her husband died at 46 years ago (should read 48 years of age). The Deceased was perhaps the oldest person in Clark County at the time of her death. She retained faculties, almost unimpaired, to the last. Her remains were deposited in the family burying ground, on the Butts homestead, Friday. Three Daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren survive her. (Obituary NOTE: The above Nancy Ann Newton Butt was born 25 AUG 1795. Her husband, Jeremiah Butt, was born 11 OCT 1792, in Virginia and died in Clark County, Missouri on 10 FEB 1840………..) (Transcribers note: I have substituted the name BUTT for the original obituary spelling of BUTTS. I believe the newspaper used the incorrect last name for Jeremiah and Nancy BUTT.)

    3. Good afternoon, I felt compelled to write you all and thank you so much for the advise and help you have offered and given. I have the notes in a file of whom I spoke to. I believe I am going to call them and ask for the woman I spoke to. I am going to let them know that there is a Greencastle / Green Castle and actually insisted I had it confused with Green City / Greencity. I take my research very seriously and try to document as much as possible. Since in my visits to the local FHC I could not find much available for MO. I guessed perhaps she was right. I know that when I order items through the FHC I get them on a long term method so they remain at the library and hopefully will assist other researchers someday. I can only assume (as much as I hate to assume) the woman was new and did not know, or simply was there to collect a pay check and was not concerned about any research. On another note, I have some data on the Perrigo surname I copied from CD's. I am more than willing to email to anyone who might be researching that surname and would like to see it. Again, I thank you all for everything and very greatly appreciate the outpour of advice I have been given. It is simply wonderful. 1. [MOCLARK-L] DAWSON, HOBBS, KAHOKA, KEOKUK
    2. My Great grandfather, Kaye Woodhead DAWSON, was a section hand on the railroad and a school teacher/principal in Clark City, MO. before 1889 when he went to Oklahoma. My Great grandmother Mary Jane Johnston DAWSON was also a school teacher in the same school. That was where they met. My Great grandfather wrote many poems that were centered around Kahoka and one about going to Keokuk, Ia. and running into a friend there. There are lots of little clues about history and places in these poems. Has anyone ever heard of "dutcherland". Was there a church in or near Keokuk called Happy Hill? !n 1883, at least he seems to be a school teacher. He would have been 21. Peggy

    3. Good evening, I am so sorry, I sent the previous message to quick. I have the following information which was all gathered from a bible and family letters. Again I am sorry for the quick finger. I was so anxious. :>) My gg-grandfather was Justice Perrigo. I know he was in Sullivan, Clark, Putnam, Adair counties MO. He died in MO but not certain as to where. He married Eliza Snyder in Adair County in 1882 and had two sons Hiram b 1882 & Jonathan b. 1887. Justice had brothers but am not aware of their names. It was mentioned in letters that Justice and his brothers went into the war. I know they were in MO from 1880-1900 from what I have been able to gather from a bible and letters. The letters state he was raised in MO but never said where he was born or came from. According to the death cert. of Hiram it stated he was born in Green Castle 1882, but I am told there is no such place and I don't know what county or town Jonathan was born in as the letters never stated? I am at a loss as I am in Florida and I have called MO Archives, county seats for the above mentioned counties and all tell me there is no indices, no such town as Green Castle and very few records. I really do not know where to start as the information I have been given is very vague. I thank you for any assistance.
