The Clark County Historical Society and Museum will host a special presentation on the Spencer family murders at 10 a.m. Saturday. The museum is located at 252 N. Morgan St., Kahoka. A group of local individuals, calling themselves the Bill Young Project, have been researching the ax murders and the trials of Willis James and Bill Young. A memorial service of some type will be held on the 125th anniversary of the Spencer deaths Aug. 3 at the Bethlehem Cemetery where they and many of their neighbors are buried. If anyone on this list can provide the regular hours of the museum, it would be appreciated. My interest in the murders is that family tradition says my great-grandmother Mary Alexander was the first woman on the scene from the neighborhood. I have no proof of that claim other than my mother said so. I am seeking information on the origin of the name for Luray, MO. I wonder if it was named for Luray, VA, by the early settlers who arrived there from that part of Virginia. Luray, VA, was founded in 1812 on Hawksbill Creek in Shenandoah County, VA. It became the county seat of Page County when that county was formed in 1831 from Shenandoah (mainly) and Rockingham Counties. Joe Baker

Greetings Listers: Does anyone on this list have access to any Land Records Indexes for Clark County covering the period 1865 - 1875? Thanks, Micheal Mathews Researching: Channel, Barnes, Hathaway, Mathews
I am seeking the birth place of my Great Grand Father, William D. George, born March 1849 Missouri. According to census records his Father was born in KY and Mother in MO. I know nothing of him until his arrival in TX some time prior to 1879. I understand he was a cattle hand, worked on the Moss Ranch in Llano Co. TX, fought Indians in Llano and Gillespie Co. TX, in the battle of Pack Saddle Hill. William married Henrietta (Ettie) Solomon b 1861 Coffee Co., GA on 9/18/79 in Gillespie Co., TX. Ettie was the daughter of Godwin and Mary Jane (Roberts)Solomon. The George family had four children. Their first (my grandfather) William Lawrence George b July 21, 1880 m Mary Adaline Garrett b 1887 Albert, TX. Euphamia (DAU) b Mar 1882 Enock E. (SON) b Aug 1885 Francis C. (DAU) b Apr 1887 William was widowed prior to 1900 and by 1910 he had moved to Willow City (Gillespie Co) TX. There he owned and operated a general store until it's destruction by fire. William does not appear on 1920 census, no death cert is available at state or county levels. I have and am researching MO census but have found so many William D's that, well, you can't see the forest for the trees. I am completely open to any suggestions or references, any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the block wall to bet all walls. Any one researching these lines or believing they may be related is encouraged to reply. DWG __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am looking for the parents and siblings of GEORGE KYLER and HESTER WARD. GEORGE was born in 1830 and HESTER about 1833. They married in Clark County, Missouri in 1850 and then moved to Hancock County, Illinois. They had three children. I believe that GEORGE has changed the family surname 3 times, once in 1850 to CARROLL, in 1870 it was MCCARROLL and sometime after that he changed it to CARLE. This has been a very difficult search due to the name changes. Any little bit of information that you might have could be just the clue I am looking for. Thank you Elva (Carle) Haughey
Could someone please give me information on the Marshall family members buried in the Peaksville Cemetery or cemeteries in Peaksville area. I believe there are Henry and Josephine Marshall and may be others. Thanks for your time and work, Twila

I am looking for anyone who can tell me what pre-1860 (1837-1860s) resources would be available either in the county historical society or the court house. In particular I am looking for early newspapers, church records, school records, or early tax records. I have information from the usual sources, the censuses, probates, cemetery lists, some land records, and Goodspeed's. I would like get an idea of what I can expect to find before making a trip. Need your grandfather's first name to do this search. Have found nothing with Elizabeth, Lizzie and Ona. Connie Street ckcasey@louisacomm.net
Evidently my GGgrandfather married Lizzie Hobbs circa 1890(It was a second marriage). In 1895 they had Ona DAWSON, in 1897 they had Rockleigh DAWSON, sometime the also had Leah DAWSON, she may be the eldest. Is there anyone who can find them in a 1900 census for Kahoka or surrounding areas? Peggy
Hi Is there anyone out there that can look up the marriage of Charles Ambrose Perry to a woman whose first name was Benja. They would have been married about 1889 in Clark County. Susan Jurado
