We have pictures and there are birth and death dates. She was struck by a train. Benjamin was only 38 when that happened so I figure he could have even had a wife in between Ruth and Lizzie. When her death happened he had an older son, out of the house, who had been born in 185? in England, James Barthlomew DAWSON, a daughter, Tirzah DAWSON, also born in England, My Ggrandfather Kaye Woodhead DAWSON, & Katie DAWSON, born in New Hampshire and an infant, Allan T. DAWSON born in Liberty, 6 months old at the time of the 1870 Clay County census, all were the issue of Benjamin and Ruth. In the 1880 census Allan is living in the home of T.O. & Tirzah Dawson NELSON in Liberty, Missouri. I don't know at what point the Benjamin DAWSON family moved to Kahoka. The reason I didn't get to do ANYTHING while I was at the Kahoka cemetery for the first and ONLY time was because the belt to the alternator had broken and we ended up pushing our car into a farmer's barn to get enough of a charge to limp into Mexico and get a new one put on at Ewer's tire store. When we were at the cemetery and I spied a grounds keeper and wanted to go over and ask him to help me find the "OUR FATHER" tombstone, my husband said "NO way, I'm worried about my battery going dead." or something like that. Such frustration. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh If anyone is a member of or can put me in contact with the Historicla Society of Clark County, please feel free to do so. I did everything I could by phone, calling the city and county regarding the graveyard records to no avail so now my only hope about finding when that grave was dug lies elsewhere, but WHERE??? The town may be small enough so that you could send a letter with just Kahoka for an address. Some small town post offices will still deliver letters that way. Connie Street >>

    2. Peggy, I totally understand your frustrations with trying to obtain information. I visited the cemetery in Kahoka and was quite dismayed with their having no records. I recently purchased a death certificate from a town here in Minnesota. The information gave me the birth place (though it just said Missouri), date of birth, and both parent's names. If you have to pay for the death certificate, it's well worth the price. Let me know if you need anything in Minnesota. Good luck! Joan

    2. I need help. If anyone can help me I would be willing to try to help back as I am in Jefferson City where the state archives are and could do some looking. It seems that my GGgrandfather Benjamin DAWSON, married a Lizzie HOBBS when he was 58 and she was 19 or 20. I have looked for their marriage record and that is all the information that is on the license. I did look at census records and that is why I think that Lizzie was only 19 at the time of their marriage. I found her listed as one of 10 children in a census that would have made her 19 in 1890. I guess marriage to an older man was preferable to life in a 10 children household. It appears that 7 years later she and Benjamin had a son, Rockleigh. There is a grave for Benjamin Dawson in Kahoka but all it says is his name, OUR FATHER and no dates for birth or death. I have tried the usual routes for obtaining more information, but the cemetery has become progressively owned by the town and they don't have records going back far enough. All these dead ends are driving me nuts. Would there be a birth certificate for ROCKLEIGH, a death certificate for Benjamin or Lizzie Hobbs? Where do I look next? I don't know when Benjamin died. If I found Rockleigh's death certificate would it list his parents? Where do I turn next? Help. Peggy

    3. Forgot to mention that Benjamin was probably married previously to Lizzie if he was that old. You might find a marriage record for that previous marriage and then figure from that. ... just a thought. ----- Original Message ----- From: <PFalk10134@aol.com> To: <MOCLARK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2000 6:45 PM Subject: [MOCLARK-L] Rockleigh Dawson > I need help. 1. [MOCLARK-L] Hasle, Peters
    2. Hi everyone Hope some of you might be able to help. I have been researching the HASLE and PETERS families. What I know is this: Fred HASLE married Margaret PETERS. They lived in Clark County at some point and had a son, Matthew HASLE, born in 1876. He had, three sisters and a brother. By the time Matthew was four, that would be in 1880, he was an orphan. He lived there until 1900 when he moved to Minnesota. Matthew's Social Security Number indicates that he worked for the Railroad. Around 1907, he and his wife, moved back to Clark County where they had a daughter, Olive. They left Missouri around 1910 and after traveling for a few years, ended up back in Minnesota, where they stayed. I know he was born in Clark County, Missouri, since his death certificate indicates this. Hasle is a very uncommon name, so anything that's close to this spelling could very well be connected. Can anyone help? Also, does anyone know what type of information the railroad can provide? Thanks in advance, Joan
