Reno is one of my family names, and they were in that part of MO very early. In fact, my 5th g-grandfather Jonathon Reno (born 30 Sept. 1780 in TN) came to Springfield and was stabbed to death there on 11 Feb. 1838. There's info on his stabbing on the MOGREENE website. His daughter Mary (my 4th g-grandma) married Avenant Hollingsworth, who was a Sheriff of Springfield and Marshal of Greene Co. Not without irony, he was also stabbed to death, just outside Springfield, 24 April 1870. He was almost 70 years old, but he was trying to help a drunken man out of ditch when the guy pulled a knife on him. Anyway, I know that some of Jonathon's sons lived in Christian Co, so possibly Reno, MO is named for this family. Please let me know if you find any info on the Reno family of Reno, MO.
