They were one of the first families to have arrived in Christian County, Missouri approximately during 1820 or 1821. Please contact me if you can tell me what you know about them. (NOTE: I'm not related to them, nor, am I looking to find a generation list of decendents. I am simply looking for more information about this family who settled in Christian County during 1820-21.)

They came from down in the Cape Girardeau area; via Christian Co., with some of them ending up in Barry Co. Elizabeth Yoachum married Henry Schell and they founded the Schell dynasty of McDonald and Barry Counties. Both Shell (sic) Knob, Barry Co., and Schell's Mill, McDonald Co. are named for them. My grandmother told me how there were bad feelings over Al Capp naming Daisy Mae's parents Mammy and Pappy Yoakum, of Dogpatch USA, since the Yoachum's were such a prominent area family. The Yoachums came to Cape Girardeau from the same area in Pennsylvania.that the Schells were from, Penn Dutch country.
