    3. Are you from the Indiana Melton [Reuben & Ailcey (McAdams) Melton descendants] or the Tennessee Melton [Ansel/Ancil/Ancel & Mary (Hoffman/Huffman) Melton'd descendants]clan - or both? There are a very few Christian County Melton's from three other lines, but about 95% are from one of these. In one case at least, there's linage from both. Stephen Decatur Melton of the Indiana Meltons married Lucy Ann Melton of the Tennessee Meltons. Both Ancel and Reuben's ancestors lived in North Carolina. Though evidence is not rock solid, some researchers believe the two might be related. I was thinking there were marriages to the Handy family from both groups, but offhand I only can come up with Indiana lines. Some of the Melton/Handy connections I can think of right off are: From Martin Fisher & Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Bilyeu) Melton - of the Indiana Melton's William Henderson Melton Jan 1850 - 2 Nov 1905 m 23 Jan 1873 Mary Frances Handy Green Berry Melton 20 Mar 1856 - 10 Mar 1928 m Minerva Handy Stephen Decature Melton who married Lucy Ann Melton, daughter of James Mattison & Mary Jane (Pendelton) Melton who were both first cousins of my Martha Virginia (Elkins) Fowler, Jim on the Melton side and Mary on the Elkins side was another son of Martin Fisher & Margaret Ann. From Greenberry & Theodosia (Brown) Melton - of the Indiana Meltons Mary Catherine Melton ELLINGSWORTH 22 Dec 1873 - 12 Dec 1953 Selmore Dau of m/1 John E. Handy & m/2 James Ellingsworth After Theodosia died, Greenberry married Manerva Jane Handy. My line is from Ansel and Mary. Three of their eight sons came to Missouri - Austin & Ailcey (Stone) Melton to Stone County and he to Leclede county after her death; Jacob & Lucy (Matthews) Melton to Christian County; and Joel Melton to Texas/Wright Counties. I descend from Ancel and Mary's only daughter, Mary "Polly" (Melton) Elkins. She didn't come to Christian County, but two of her children and at least six of her grandchildren whose parents didn't come to Missouri settled in Christian County. I'll be glad to exchange information if you wish.
