In 1886, my great grandfather, Hugh B. Phillips, married his third wife "Mrs." Malinda Mallett in Christian County, Missouri. They had daughters Beunavista "Beuny" born in 1887 and Geraldine "Gurley" born in 1889. In 1894, Hugh moved to Newton County, Arkansas where in 1895 he married for the fourth time. All I know about Malinda Mallett is the marriage record and the two daughters. I've never been able to learn her age; whether Mallett was indeed a previous married name or this was just another of those cases where the recorder wrote "Mrs." beside the name of many previous-unmarried brides; the names of any blood relative of Malinda Mallett except her daughters; when or when she died or even if the marriage ended in divorce. I don't find any possible candidate for her on the 1880 Federal census anywhere. However, if she was indeed married before , it may be that her name was not Mallett in 1880. Would appreciate any lead on the identity of Mrs. Malinda Mallett.
