I haven't worked on my Herndon manuscript in some time, but I show among the children of William Holman Herndon (Jan. 10, 1814-Nov. 20, 1881) of Stone Co. (whose children largely settled in Porter Township): • James R. Herndon (Jan. 12, 1857, Stone or Christian Co., MO-March 9, 1947) married Cynthia Manerva Aven on Jan. 16, 1879 before the Rev. L.F. Skaggs. He is consistently shown as a farmer in census records. They are interred at Payne Cemetery, Nixa, MO. James and Cynthia had eight childen, of whom seven were living in 1910, including: Oscar E. (likely Ernest) (b. November 1879, m. Ella M. Sellars, Sept. 1, 1899, d. Stone Co.); Josie V. ((August 1883, m. William F. Hartley, Feb. 21, 1904); Annie (July 1885, m. Elisha Willoughby of Griffin, Sept. 3, 1903); John R. (February 1887, m. Bessie ?); Clyde (June 1890); and Clint (1906). I don't have any information on the death of Oscar Herndon, but by 1919, Missouri had death certificates -- available from the Missouri Department of Health -- that show causation.
