He came to Missouri in 1888 and in this community was most of his life spent. He is survived by four children: John BROTHERS of Sparta, Mrs. Josie WILSON of May, Okla, Louis Brothers of Springfield and Mrs. Bessie CHENOWETH of St. Louis, also 18 grandchildren. He died Jan 20 1934 aged 79 years, 4 months and 15 days. He joined the Baptist Church in 1890. Funeral Services were conducted January 22 in Church of Christ in Sparta by Rev. Butler with burial in Prospect Cemetery under the direction of the Sparta Undertaking firm, Rathbun & Chaffin." ----end---- My theory is that John D. BROTHERS b Sep 1849 in Indiana and Jasper Newton BROTHERS were brothers. John D. BROTHERS' residence was Mattoon, Illinois when he enlisted on 10 May 1864 in the Civil War. He was a Pvt in the Illinois 135 Infantry Company I. His wife was Jennie Unknown and their children were Doshia, James, William, Sovena and Carrie S. BROTHERS all born in Illinois according to the 1880 census Carthage, Hancock, Illinois. Two other BROTHERS were residents of Mattoon, Illinois when they enlisted in the Civil War. Were they related?
