Anne was also known as "Indian Anne". From what I've been able to put together, Anne was left near a spring by a band of Indians heading west. she was found by Archibald Young when she was 3 yrs old and raised as part of his family. She first shows up on the 1870 census as 18yrs old, "Indian" and listed as "keeping house". Allen Young was a slave of the Young family who was part Indian. I'm guessing he was treated well for him to have taken the Young family name. They had 5 children total I believe and Lewis "Wash" Young was my G-Grandfather. Allen passed on and Anne stayed in the area after all the children had gone on their own. She passed there and is burried in the area. Lewis married Odie Price and they had a son, Leonard "Len" Calvin who married Grace D. Williams in Kansas City where they lived and had my father, Leonard C. Young and my uncle that I'm named for, Robert E. Young. Most of the descendants of the Y! oungs and Prices still live in Springfield, MO. You can find some of this info in the book, "Christian County, It's First Hundred Years". This is on line on the Christian County geneology web site. There is also an article in the magazine "OzarksWatch" issue on African-Americans in the Ozarks. I hope this helps you out. Feel free to contact me at; bobby@worldwindmusic.org . Peace Bobby Young
