Those sort of things would be of interest in a book or in the regularly quarterly printed for society members. We have to get this information while the people are here to share it. I forgot which culture, but someone has a saying that A library is lost with the death of each person, since they are the last keeper some of their memories. Sorry. No. It sold out within a few months of publication, but attempts to see if Turner Publishing who printed it would reprint were unsuccessful. If another book is done, it's a fairly labor intensive and lengthy procedure. Strictly guessing, it MIGHT be possible to get it printed by 2009. Since we are just gauging interest right now, there would many months at a minimum before any deadline for sumission would be reached. Hundreds of families with multiple generations in the counties and/or lots of interesting history in the county failed to submit any information on their lines for the history published about eight years ago. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZMB.2ACI/1873 Message Board Post: This is a little late. Since there are so many people who lived at one time in Newton County, Arkansas and another time in Christian County, Missouri, I thought some people who had relatives who moved back and forth and who had not seen this announcement might be interested. Some of the surnames which come immediately to mind of those moving back and forth include Jones, Harp, Davis, McCoy, Keeton, Cecil, and Bolin - but there are many more. The Newton County Historical Society is preparing to reprint the book "History of Newton County" by Walter F. Lackey copyright 1950, by permission of the copyright holder. This will have the exact text of the 1950 version but is fully indexed, where the original was not. At least 50 copies need to be pre sold to pay for cost of printing. To order: send a check or money order for $29.95 per book to Newton County Historical Society, PO Box 360, Jasper, AR 72641. Orders need to be received by Dec. 10. Price includes tax and shipping. This would make a nice Christmas gift. If the book isn't ready by Christmas, we would be happy to send a gift certificate to the person the book is to be given to. The Newton County Family History Vol. 2 is also on sale until Dec 31. The cost of it is $36.95 tax and postage included. Also makes a very nice gift for a loved one. Mabel, I've been interested in collecting stories by interviewing Clever residents. I can't guarantee how many I could do, but maybe it would help to have someone who would actually write the material that those old-timers would offer if they didn't have to do the writing themselves. Since my husband has a welding business I come in contact with some of the old timers in the area (although I'm sure there are a lot I don't know), and once they find out that I'm interested in the area's history and families they are usually willing with some ready stories....maybe not of the type that are normally included in county history books. However, there used to be a little church just down the road from us where the old bridge crossed the James River. The husband of one of my neighbors helped to move it when it got moved across the river next to the Delaware Landing cemetery. Then another lady told me how when they were getting rid of some of the furnishings of that church when it was being torn down, she was told that the pulpit was made by her father and they asked if she wanted it. She did, and so she has it now. Patti -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.371 / Virus Database: 267.13.13/197 - Release Date: 12/09/2005
