Can anyone tell me who Helen Louise Gardner's parents and grands were? She married Michael Workman in 1932, in Christian Co. Jerry Johnston
Hey, can anyone tell me the parents and maybe grandparents of William Shipman, b. 1878 d. 1957; that married Julia Ida Bell Workman? Thanks! Jerry Johnston
Hello List Members, There is a new book on our list called "Chasing the Butterfield Overland Mail Stage. I have not read the book, but it might contain some history of local counties and it does sound interesting. Our thanks to Don Mincke for writing it. The direct link for information is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mostone/authors/mincke.htm Jo

Good suggestion. Thanks so much for making it. Do you have any recommendations? Also, how about involving local schools? Know there are alot of new folks, given the way development has sprawled across Christian and Greene Counties, but whether old or new--cemeteries are a great way of introducing kids to local history and a way of curtailing vandalism. I still am angry about the burning of the barn on the former Patterson-Casebolt farm. Would really like to talk to the young men who did it and ask them why, what purpose was served? They were fortunate that the current owner of the land did not press charges, wonder if they understand the gift that he gave them? Sorry for venting. Have you thought of involving the Boy Scouts? I know they sometimes do service projects like this and it would not cost you any money from your grant. ----- Original Message ----- From: ciarrai4378@mchsi.com<mailto:ciarrai4378@mchsi.com> To: MOCHRIST-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:MOCHRIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 10:53 PM Subject: Re: [MOCHRIST] Re: History Project and Hyde Cemetery Dan, Thanks for responding. HELLO KERRY, I HAVE BEEN TO THE CEMETARY THIS PAST YEAR, AND IT IS A WRECK!! OVERGROWN AND NOT KEPT AT ALL. A COUSIN OF MINE AND I WORKED ON IT FOR A DAY AND REALLY DIDN'T MAKE A DENT IN IT. THERE IS A TABLE TOP MARKER IN THE CEMETARY, I BELIEVE IT IS A "GOODNIGHT" GRAVE. THERE ARE MANY GOODNIGHT FAMILY MEMBERS BURIED THERE. JUST A FEW HYDE'S ARE THERE. I THOUGHT I REMEMBER THAT LAND BEING GIVEN OVER TO THE COUNTY. MAYBE THEY COULD GIVE A HAND WITH CLEANUP!! TAKE CARE, DAN HYDE ----- Original Message ----- From: ciarrai4378@mchsi.com Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 7:26 AM To: MOCHRIST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOCHRIST] Re: History Project and Hyde Cemetery Gosh, think my credibility with this list is zilch, am still slogging away on that Patterson-Casebolt-Pedelo Ridge-Western Benton Township monolith! Will be retiring this coming spring and may move back to Springfield. Regardless of whether I do move back, will definitely contribute to the history project and would be willing to volunteer my dubious typing and computer skills to the effort. Wondered if the Samuel Hyde descendent knew of any family member who had photographed the Hyde cemetery in the 1950's, 1960's or 1970's? Reason I ask is I understand that is currently is not in good shape. However in the 1970's, when the Center for Archaeological Research at South West Mis (oops) at Missouri State University studied the cemetery they reported that there was a table top/box grave in the cemetery. This type of marker was very popular in the south, originated in the british isles. Would love to see a picture of it. By the way, the Samuel Hyde was not only a distant neighbor of the Casebolts but part of their social/economic circle. Hope everyone is warmer than we are up here in Iowa!
