    3. Did I miss the roll call? I think I missed the original post. Regardless, my families in Christian County include Gardner, Stiffler, Manley, Jennings, Nokes, Glidewell, Long and Pope. Brenda Gardner The Cains <lcain2@cox.net> wrote: I did not mean to ignore the giving of names I am searching when I questioned what a roll call was earlier. I am searching Nash, Brown, McDaniel, Shipman, Garrison and Walker. The first three are the ones I have the most information on and some of my big stumbling blocks. 2. I do not want to be eliminated from the emails that are sent out and never heard of roll call. I live in WA..state and have ties to Christian County through Shipman, Nance, Adamson. I have not been as active as I once was in this forum but enjoy the information and the possibility that some one may be looking for my Dad's side, the Nance family. Thank you, Joann Nance

    2. Caroline, The Boyd part of my family history is the weakest link that I have. It has been hard to trace. My ggrandmother was Josephine Boyd Stewart. She was born in Dade Co. Mo and then the family later moved to Christian Co. Her parents were Robert H. Boyd and Susan Bain Boyd. I am not sure what Roberts parents names were. The Boyds and the Stewarts moved from Christian Co. to Harper Co., Ks and then came down to Oklahoma for the land run in 1889. They have been hard to trace. Josephine had siblings named Margaret L., Sarah J., Mary A., Frances, Florence and Tom. Half brother and sister, Mandy and Tom Boyd. mary

    3. I'm looking for the ever elusive DYE and STEPHENS families. George W. Dye (b. abt 1846 in MO, d. 189? in Lawrence Co., AR) md. Alabama Stephens (b. Oct 1849 probably in TN, d. abt 1915 in Lawrence Co., AR), said to have been full-blood Choctaw, in Christian Co. on 08 May 1870. We know little about him (father John Dye md. 3 times -- second two were sisters, Louisa and Martha REDMAN, George's mother had the initial "E", brother was William) and nothing about her. Someone recently posted this to another list: It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry HYDENWELL sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions. 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping or in participating in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer?
