    3. Everything gets a bit complicated, but these are some connections: 1) The sisters Mary C. Rodgers 1822-1892 and Anne Rodgers 1826 - ? married the brothers John Osburn 1817-1882 and Alexander Osburn 1815-1866. Alexander and Ann (Rodgers) Osburn's daughter Mary Frances Osburn 1840 - c1898 married Marshall Norton Nix. Among Marshall Norton & Mary Francis (Osburn) Nix's children was Katie Nix 25 Sep 1884 - 7 Dec 1963 who married Elmer Melton, son of Anne Melton and grandson of Benjamin "Ben" and Melissa Caroline "Cal" (Elkins) Melton. Cal was the oldest sister of my great great grandmother, Martha Virginia (Elkins) Fowler. Ben was the son of Jacob Melton, brother of my third great grandmother, Mary "Polly" (Melton) Elkins. 2) Among John & Mary C. (Rogers) Osburn's children was Mary Leona Osburn 22 Jul 1852 - 25 Mar 1922. Mary Leona married William Henry Stubbs 14 Mar 1844 - 7 Jun 1911. Among their children was Harvey Dillard Stubbs 19 Oct 1880 - 1 Nov 1973. Harvey married Effie May Melton, 18 Aug 1885 - 23 Apr 1960. Effie May was the daughter of Stephen Decatur and Lucy Ann (Melton) Melton. Lucy Ann Melton 4 Jan 1861 - 14 Mar 1899 was the daughter of James Mattison "Jim" & Mary Jane "Polly" (Pendleton) Melton. Both of Lucy's parents were first cousins of Martha Virginia (Elkins) Fowler, since Jim Melton was a son of Jacob Melton, brother of Mary "Polly" (Melton) Elkins while Polly Pendleton was the daughter of Ann (ELkins) Brown Pendleton, sister of Thomas Elkins. 3) There were several connections, though none found by blood, with Dr. Isaac Newton Rogers. Some sources say that Rogersville was named for him, others that it was named for his father, but regardless it was definitely named for that family. In 1880, Laura Ann (Fowler) Hart Parton Wimmer, was the housekeeper for Isaac and his mother. Shortly after that date, the Rogers family became guardians for the recently orphaned son and two daughters of Samuel S. & Sarah Perzina (Woody) Flagg as well Isaac becoming the first medical trainer for Cullen Bryan Elkins before he left for medical school. Dr. C. Bryant Elkins married Alice Eva Flagg, oldest daughter of Sam and Sarah Flagg, and the Elkins and Rogers families remained close as blood kin throughout life. Isaac's brother, John Rogers named a son Charles Elkins Rogers after Dr. Elkins. C. Bryant Elkins' father, Higdon Richard Jarrett "Dick" Elkins was the youngest brother of Martha Virginia (Elkins) Fowler and Melissa Caroline (Elkins) Melton. C. Bryant Elkins's sister, Melissa Caroline Elkins married William Lincoln Phillips, my great grandfather's brother. His only full brother, Euclid S. Elkins, married Sarah Mary "Mollie" Hart, daughter of Lucy Ann (Fowler) Hart Parton Wimmer. There are other connections, but those are some that come immediately to mind. However, other than perhaps the Johnsons, Jones, Meltons or a few other surnames, there are more large, apparently unconnected Rogers lines in Christian County than nearly any surname. I know, without thinking too hard, of six Rogers lines which as far as I know now, have no relationship to each other, and several of these have many descendants.

    3. >Happy New Year all!! We are still active, Families researching, Joseph & Thomas Craven, Henry Brown, John Kelly. We are still trying to find the death of Joseph Garrison Craven's wife Nancy between 1880 and 1889. (She may have died in Blue Eye, Stone County) He married Atlanta Jane Brown in Highlandville Sept 3 1889. He Homestead in Oct 1891 South of Highlandville. One of Nancy's son died after Oct 1891 Joseph Henry Craven Married Nina Patch (Auborn Patch's daughter) in Highlandville April 18 1896, she died after a daughter was born March 1 1897. She may have died at childbirth with her or another child before 1900. We have not found any death records or graves for these people. John Kelly and Martha Craven married in Stone County in 1879. We saw in the 1880 census where the were living across the state line in Arkansas. We think they moved to Highlandville after that, but have not found them again. We also do not know who John Kelly's parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim & Kay
