My Christian County ancestors were in MO pretty early-Jonathon RENO, my 5th great-grandpa was stabbed to death in Springfield in 1838. His daughter Mary "Polly Ann" Reno married Avenant HOLLINGSWORTH, who was an early Sheriff and Marshal in Springfield and Greene County. He also owned land in what would become Christian County. Their son Harbin married Elizabeth Minerva REESE (her father James Harvey REESE came to what would become Christian County, and died in Nixa in 1863) and Harbin and Elizabeth's son James Alva Hollingsworth married Missouri Tennessee WEST in Nixa in 1880. Missouri's grandpa Ananias WEST owned land in what would become Christian County near Nixa, and died there in 1878. The WEST family married into many of the other Christian County names, including JOHNSON, MOBLEY, KELTNER, and SAMUEL. I am always looking for kin to share info with! My gg-grandma Missouri Tennessee West Hollingsworth left Christian County after she married in 1880, but until her death in 1927 in Independence KS called Nixa Mo HOME. Meg Gentry Bookout in CA
I need information on the death of the son of Ernest and Elizabeth Ellen Swearengin. He was Raymond Sharp: He was killed when a horse kicked him in the head. Union Chapel Cemetery Sharp, Raymond Jan 23 1911 June 19 1918 Any information or pictures of this family would be most welcome. I have looked for a write-up in a newspaper in the area but did not find anything. Thank you so much in advance. Raymond's father Ernest, was the son of Lawrence B. and Mary E. Grabble Sharp. This family lived in Elk Head, Christian County, Missioui. The migrated to Christian County from Appanoose County, Iowa. Also looking for information on Ernest sister Mary Sharp who married Willey Francis Whitted and they had 5 children. I will not name all the children due to space, but I know nothing about the WHITTED family. There are others that the SHARP's intermarried with. Some of the SHARP's are buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sparta and I was able to get pictures while I was there. Others are buried in Union Chapel Cemetery in Christian County. If there is anyone local who would take pictures for me of the sites in Union Chapel, I would gladly pay all cost. Thank you so very much for this chance to share this information. Sharon, Yes, we had a great Christmas and New Year. I am about to celebrate another birthday along with a new year. My sister, Pam and her husband, Bill and I are going to Hawaii together the 25th to celebrate Christmas and our birthdays. I am looking forward to being with them. Glad you had a good holiday and that you liked my paintings. Keep watching that web site as we are going to be changing the paintings often. I bet you are a good painter. Glennis
After a very long break I am once again researching Applegate, Sharpton, Pruett/Pruitt, Morrison, Parker, Williams, Mackey. James Mattison "Jim" & Mary Jane "Polly" (Pendleton)Melton's son, Ansel Marion Melton's FIRST wife was Abigail Landers c1860 - early 1880's . They had a son who died young and a daughter Lola Myrtle (Melton) Koch. After Abigail's death (date unknown), Ansel married in 1885 Myrthe Naomi "Oma" Atterberry. They had Ida (Melton) Hooting, Ben Melton and Bessie (Melton) Hansen. After Oma's death, Ansel married third in 1895 Leona Neoma Plank. They had one daughter, Anna G. (Melton) Kissee. There were lots of Landers connected to especially Jim & Polly's branch. The Landers were among a dozen or more surnames who came from the same part of Middle Tennesse as the Melton, Elkins, Fowler, Phillips, etc. families and intermarried into these lines. The Landers aren't the easiest bunch to follow. I still don't know who Abigail's parents were. Her name must have been spelled differently or she was missed entirely in childhood censuses.
