In todays Carson City Nevada Appeal there is an obituary for Josie P. Teehee, born Ok.to Thomas Inman and Sophie Hale. Is she in anyone's family tree?I know I have seen Hales and Inmans in Christian Co. I'd be glad to send the obit.,if she is. Emma Owens Dayton,Nv.
Hi Pam- What Bookouts are you researching? Mine weren't in Christian County (my ancestors were from Nixa) but my husband's Bookout line has Missouri connections, from TN originally. If you haven't been on it yet, the recent index to marriages, land records and UCC from the Christian County Recorders' office is on line at: http://66.112.71.165/resolution/ Enter the word public as both the User ID and password for access. It's not going to give you older records, but for the past 12 years, it is loaded with information and easy to search.
Kerry, We finished clearing trees, burning, building a NEW fence and getting the existing modern stones reset at the McLean Cemetery. I was able to get a regular monument company to reset the larger modern stones. He indicated he was afraid to do much with the older stones as they were very brittle. I encouraged him to set up some of them and his point was proven when a 3" piece "flaked" off the side of a 8" x 8" x 24" stone he was resetting. He was handling it extremely carefully and touching it only with his bare hands. His advice was to do almost nothing to the old stones. Even standing them upright could result in a fracture. Replacement with modern materials seems to be the only realistic solution if only an economical way is found to do it. Ken In a message dated 1/8/2006 10:16:57 A.M. Regarding the story and photographs, if you cannot find descendents, donating them to the Christian County Library would insure that both descendents and all researchers would have access. Just a suggestion, I work for a State Historical Society so I am biased toward public archives. There are many cemeteries in Christian County in need of maintence and rehabiltation. The Casebolt and Hyde in far eastern Christian County are two of great interest to me. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago there was a flurry of discussion about doing rehabilitation. I do know an sculpture/stone mason in Kansas City who could direct and instruct. Would you be interested in joining forces to work on several cemeteries this coming summer? Forgot to include the link from Yellowstone County, Montana GenWeb mentioning the Mountview Cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mtygf/ygfcemindex.htm
When this came up earlier, someone pointed out there IS a Mountview Cemetery in Billings, Montana - just in case there was any possiblity that the wrong state was being checked. You have straightened out a lot of info that I have been trying to figure out. Where in the world did you get this info about W.A. Hale's wives? Thanks so much. What is confusing is that in W.A. Hale's obit, it says that his widow's name is "Bessie". An obit for one of her brothers says that her brother's last name was Williams and they lived in Lawrence County. I cannot find W.A. Hale's widow's obit. Do you know anything about W.A.'s other children? His son Carl Truman Hale had an obit in the Los Angeles Times. It said that Carl was in the first group of pilots in the Signal Corps in 1911. He was one of the "flying sergeants". He served in the Air Corps until 1938. He tried to rejoin in WW2, but they made him an instructor. He had a son named Carl T. Hale,Jr., but he passed away in 2004, before I could talk to him. If you have any more info on the life of W.A. Hale, please let me know. There are two photos of W! . A. Hale in Wayne Glenn's books--at The Library Center on South Campbell in Springfield Missouri. They show him as a teacher. He looked more like a gunfighter of the wild west. Thanks for all your help. I have recieved email from others which were not correct at all about W.A. They tried to tell me that W.A. was divorced many times. I think it is the 1910 census of Christian County that shows Ola White living with W.A. Hale as a school teacher who had no wife. Your info explains a lot. Thanks brian
Hello List, I know I haven't posted in a while, so will try again. Is anyone on the list, have any Ross or Baze families they are searching for? I am looking on this county to see if any of my Ross or Baze families ever lived there. They lived in Barry Co.Mo. and came from McNairy Co. Tn. to Barry Co. in 1842. She lived most of her adult life in the Kansas City area. She was first married to Arthur White in 1916 but it didn't last but just a very few years. She was also married to a fellow with the last name of Jernell before marrying Orlando. I know nothing about her last two husbands. I am not positive but I don't believe that Ola had any children. My main purpose in writing is to point out a mistake I believe you are making with regard to Ola's parents. Her father was William A. Hale but her mother was not Bessie Payne. Bessie died in 1891 shortly after giving birth to their fourth child. In 1897, William married Frances (Haslip) Handy, widow of Floyd Handy. William and Frances only had the one child (Ola) before she died in 1911. She was buried in the Hammond Cemetery east of Highlandville. I suspect that is why Ola was also buried there. Hope this helps a little. Wayne Pryer
There was no descendant, nor even a niece or nephew nor a husband, mentioned in her obit. She apparently lived with a sister in Lee's Summit. Perhaps there is something about her in a city directory there before 1958 - nothing here. Orlando, Ola V. (Hale) 13 Oct 1898 - 19 Apr 1958 CCR 1 May 1958 p1 Funeral services for Mrs. Ola V. (Hale) Orlando who died April 19 were held at Highlandville Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Blevins officiating. Burial was in Highlandville Cemetery under direction of the Jewell E.
