I'm hoping to find at least Henry's death date, and place of burial. This family appears on the tax records as of 1889 and Henry's name seems to no longer show up about 1897, and his wife Susan appears on the 1900 tax record as well as the census....By 1910 I can't find Susan anywhere, so hoping to again find at least Henry and possibly Susan as well. They lived in Polk area. Here's their info. Thanks, John B. 1 Henry W. Hartman 1845 - 1897 .. +Susan Smith 1859 - ........ 2 Emma Hartman 1876 - ........ 2 Wesley Hartman 1881 - ........ 2 William O. I think the tornado would have been to far North for Deleware, but Manley should be ok. Just South of the Glidewell cemetary, is where my dad's mother lived, in a mobile home, until about 7 years ago, when we moved her to an assisted living facility in Republic. My dad's estranged half-brother (Menzies) had title to the land, but we don't know if he was still living there or if it was someone else. What was left of the mobile home that had been put in last summer, is... nothing. I asked a utility crew that was working on the powerlines, if anyone had been around, they had seen no one. This area of Northern Christian County and Southern Greene County was hit by a tornado last night. The whole valley where the old H.F. Bridge was located, is a shambles, but no lives appear to have been lost at this time. There is a lot of debris in the old Glidewell cemetery, can't tell what, if any damage. My ancestors, the Russells, are buried in Dodson Cemetery and their farm was nearby. Hate to hear about the tornado damage. We were by there several years ago and it is beautiful country. Elaine Russell Coffman Dallas, Texas
I am so sorry for those of you who had damage in your area. I heard about the tornados hitting MO and wondered where the damage had occurred. From my mother's story of tornados in her childhood, I understand that they are common there. We, too, live in a tornado prone area of the country (Georgia) , and although they have hit all around, we have been blessed to have been spared damage, ourselves. My sympathies are with those who have suffered from these storms. We were in Branson when that tornado hit on Sat. We were in the Museum of the "Titanic". If that wasn't strange, water came through the ice burgh real bad, we were only half through the Museum when the power went off. We seen what was on the news first hand. We live in Warsaw, we stayed the night (that was very bad) and Sun., came home, so far everything in our area is no damage, we haven't been to town yet. Meg, If the Cabin was donated to the state, then went to either the Department of Conservation or Department of Natural Resource--parks. I sense that you are not exactly sure where it was located. If you can get a better idea of its location and the names of the individuals who donated it, you might try contacting both of those Departments. If I were you I would direct my question to the land acquisition section of each Department. Way back in the dark ages, I worked in Jeff City for what was then called the Highway Department. They had incredible records detailing the acquisition of land for the state highway system. The early records included wonderfully detailed maps showing "improvements"--houses, barns, etc. For conservation, try: http://mdc.mo.gov/contact/ For DNR, try: webmanager@dnr.mo.gov <webmanager@dnr.mo.gov> Good luck, tell us if you were able to track it down. Thank you so much for the links, Kerry. I will forward them to the Bookout cousin who is looking for the cabin. I hafta agree w/ Kerri here. The crossing that Randy McConnell mentioned, is (was) the old low crossing near where the old Nelson Mill was located. Following AA hwy (now Guin road) from Campbell Blvd/Hwy 16 takes you to Blue Springs road, and on to the bridge in the pictures, and on around to FF Hwy. Jim Cochran Nixa MO -- ciarrai4378@mchsi.com wrote: It was on Farm Road 143, 3.0 miles north and 2.95 miles west of Nixa, 0.21 miles outh of the Greene-Christian line. It crossed the James in the vicinity of Blue Springs and accomodated traffic north to Battlefield. If you have access to a United States Geological Survey topographic map or go to their website, the bridge is located in the area of Sections 32 and 33, Township 28 North, Range 22 West. I know this is not in Greene or Christian County, but it is SW MO related, and thought that someone might be able to help. I am looking for information on a Bookout Cabin, possibly located in or near Branson. It was possibly donated to the state in the 1920s. Thanks in advance! Meg Gentry Bookout
I guess I'm showing my age, but as I recollected, my family took the road that crossed the "slab" at Nelson's Mill site (where Wilson's Creek Baptist Church used to hold baptisms) and then went across the Blue Springs bridge on the road to the east. The map now shows the bridge leading to the county line and the road joining FF at the Milford Owen home. There would have been no reason, apparently, to cross both the slab and the bridge. Of course, I was just a kid riding in the back seat of a car who considered that part of the country really scary. I've never driven on those roads myself. Randy
I've never heard of that before, but from all the descriptions it sounds like it is in this area: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.09194&lon=-93.35722&datum=NAD27&s=50&size=l http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.09194&lon=-93.35722&datum=NAD27&s=24&size=l Mike On Sat, 4 Mar 2006, ScandalMcC@aol.com wrote: >Mabel, > >I believe Howard Ford Bridge crosses the James River northwest on the road >that runs in front of McConnell Cemetery. That bridge is on the road that runs from FF highway in Greene county, along the Greene/Christian county line, crossing the James and then over to deadend on AA in Christian County. It does not go past Manley cemetery. Now let's stop talking about that bridge! No nightmares yet, but we are pushing my luck. :) Brenda Mike Flannigan <mikeflan@earthlink.net> wrote: I've never heard of that before, but from all the descriptions it sounds like it is in this area: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.09194&lon=-93.35722&datum=NAD27&s=50&size=l http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.09194&lon=-93.35722&datum=NAD27&s=24&size=l Mike On Sat, 4 Mar 2006, ScandalMcC@aol.com wrote: >Mabel, > >I believe Howard Ford Bridge crosses the James River northwest on the road >that runs in front of McConnell Cemetery.
