    1. New state death certificate database / Susan Emily Sink Edwards
    2. Two notes of caution: 1) The new state database of death certificates certainly is a welcome online addition to genealogy research. HOWEVER, be sure to use the ADVANCED search tool to hunt for licenses by surname by county. The basic search tool often returns no results or only partial results. On one common Nixa surname, the basic tool returned NO entries, which was impossible, even considering the failure of attending physicians/coroners to occasionally file death certificates. When I used the advanced tool, I got 16 entries. This problem occurred repeatedly. 2) I have read and been told that the death certificate of Susan Emily Sink Edwards, the second wife of the Rev. James Wright Edwards, showed that her mother was Lucinda Moffett, even though a Moffett was not among the three wives recorded for her father. But the death certificate, now available online, included the entry "don't know" under the name of her mother. Consequently, my online manuscript of the Edwards family includes that erroneous information. Sorry. It's small wonder that the informant for the death certificate didn't know. Contrary to the rumor that has circulated, the informant was Jeff Daugherty, the son-in-law of Susan's brother Stephen, who had been dead for 30 years, or several years well before the marriage of his daughter and Daugherty. Take care, Randy McConnell

    3. where do I go to to see death certificates? Sorry. I was sure I put the address in the message, but I didn't get it back either. > http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ With 700 volunteers putting over 25,000 hours time to enter over two million records in the database and state personnel digitizing, thus far, ten years of the earliest certificates, researchers have been eagerly waiting for them to come on line. With being available just one day now and so many trying to access the database, it's sure to be rushed for a good while. But, it's truly fabulous - even though many people who died after 1910 never were issued death certificates, particulary in the first few years. You can search by name, county or date - or combination thereof.

The earliest records, mostly 1910 - 1920, even have links to a PDF file of the certificate. Of course, all Missouri researchers who has heard the news is swamping the website bigtime. But, I've managed to get some searches in, and I can verify that there will be LOTS of answers - not all answers, but a wonderfully large number.

    2. Springfield Public Library "TLC" on South Campbell in Springfield, MO has a good selection of old yearbooks. You will have to ask at the desk or write to them either by E-mail or snail mail, I am sure they will look the information up for you. It may cost you a small fee or stamped envelope. You might even try calling the Local History Room of the TLC. The museum on the Missouri State College site also has lots of year books. You might contact them. Hope this helps. Toni Roush

    3. There are photographs of MOST Nixa High School graduating classes at: http://www.nixa.k12.mo.us/alumniwebpgs/default.html No one has found one for the 1934 class, but it does have the list, including your mother. At the school's centennial in 2000, a book "Century of Eagles" was published about the school's history - lots of stories, photographs lists of students, teachers, cook, janitors, administrators, board members, etc. It's a very interesting book. However, the chapter on sports pretty much entirely skips over the 1930's. I don't know whether there wasn't much to tell or it was hard to find. The following year, one of the members of the committee compiling "Century of Eagles", Wayne Glenn, produced the first of now four history and photo books on Christian County, the first just covering Nixa, the second the immediate circle around Nixa, the third a larger circle around Nixa and the fourth the Ozark area. He may have the information you need. Perhaps someone at the Nixa Alumni Association has an answer or can refer you to someone who remembers that period and can answer your questions.

    3. I am searching for information on the Nixa Eagles, the girls basketball team of the years, 1931,32, 33, 34. My mother,Josephine (JO) Stewart played on the team as a guard, I believe. She graduated from Nixa Consolidated High School in 1934. I have her diploma, and some other information, but I really would like to know if the information is true. Also if I could fine a picture of the team. I am trying to write her life story and I wanted to include this in the story. If anyone could help me, or send me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Her father was Lester Stewart, and her mother was Etta (Shawley)Stewart. Thanks for any information you could send to me. Carol Wilcox Albertson

    1. William Houston Stow(e) 1855-1882
    2. In Search Of ... I was just chatting with a cousin of mine and came up with an idea for a email to help people who are interested in finding out more about their ancestors. In my mind it is a combination of Where are They Now, The Rest of the Story, This is Your Life and Unsolved Mysteries. I've been working several years trying to find out more about my great grandfather, William Houston Stow(e). This is most of the information I have: He was born around 1855. His tombstone is located in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Christian County, MO. I believe I have found him in the following census' 1860 Census, Greene County, Clay TWP, H #80-83, [p. 5]: Solomon STOW, 60, NC, farmer; Parrilla, 50, NC; Elizabeth, 29, TN; John, 26, TN; Solomon, 20, TN; Nancy, 18, TN; Martha, 15, TN; Margaret, 13, TN; Catherine, 11, TN; Austin, 2, MO; Robt., 6, MO; and Wm., 4, MO] [1870 Census, Greene County, Clay TWP, H #128-125, [p. 134]: Lewis STOWE, 30, TN, farmer; Perrilla, 61, NC; Martha, 26, TN; Margaret, 23, TN; Catharine, 21, TN; Austin, 12, MO; William, 16, MO; and Robert, 10 ("0" underlined), MO] [1880 Census, Christian County, Polk TWP, H #234, [p. 28]: William STOWE, 24, TN, farmer; Mary, wife, 22, MO; Alice, 4, MO; and Oliver, 2, MO] 1880 Census, Christian County, Polk TWP H#230 (9?), [P28]: (could this man be William's biological father?) Stow, John, 45, single, TN Cates, Caledonia 18 Niece, MO I notice that the Wm, who I thought was my great grandfather, is listed in the 1860 and 1870 census being born in MO but the 1880 indicates TN. TN is what my mother had told me. Even if MO was a mistake, I question if Perrilla and Solomon were his parents from their age and also the order they are listed in the 1860 & 1870 census'. I do know that William Houston had a brother Bob. Solomon Stow was listed in the TN census in 1850: 1850 TN, Bradley Co, Br-1194-446; Solomon Stow, 50,w,m,NC; Parilee, 40,f,NC; Saml, 23,m,w,TN; Elizabeth, 19,f,w,TN; Delila, 17,f,w,TN; John, 15m,w,TN; Zavina, 12,f,w,TN; Law, 10,m,w,TN; Nancy, 8,f,w,TN; Martha, 6,f,w,TN; Margarett, 4,f,w,TN; Catharine, 2,f,w,TN I'd like to find out who William Houston's biological parents are. I feel that there is someone, somewhere that can help. Another clue is that buried in the same cemetery is Samuel (1800 - 1854) and Elizabeth Stow (1804 - 1890). I believe Samuel is a brother of the above mentioned Solomon. Samuel and Elizabeth are listed in the census': CENSUS: (1)1840 TN, Roane Co; Samuel Stow; 1000101-111201 (2)1850 TN, Roane Co, Ro-154-664; Stow, Samuel, 50,m,w,NC; Eliz, 46,f,w,TN; Emeline, 15,m,w,T; Houston, 11,m, w,TN; Thomas, 9,m,w,TN; James 7,m,w,TN. 1860 CHRISTIAN COUNTY FEDERAL CENSUS POLK TOWNSHIP 615 STOW ELISABETH 60 WIDOW TENN S H 21 FARMER TENN
