Does anyone know if the Lena Little who died Jan 1990 at the age of 85 and is included in the Christian Co Obits is Lena Moore, daughter of Annie Cowan and James Moore? I think it is. In the Christian Co Marriages a Vina Moore married Robert Little on July 2, 1915 and I think that might be Lena. If anyone is interested, I have a photo of Lena as a child. Or who I think is Lena. Mabel-So far only House of Fowler is turning up as a reference. Cassie

I have tried without luck to find information on several Baptist Churches in that region myself as a paternal gr-grandfather was rumored to have been a Baptist minister in that area.. So I'd love to hear if you have any luck finding a contact who might have information or a soucre towards information. There are Bledsoes only in Washington Twp. There are 2 and appear to be husband and wife they are on same stone T.B. 1860-1921 and G. 1867-1941 ( the stone actually has BLEDSAW on it but an old broken stone is next to it with G. Bledsoe and same dates and an unmarked fieldstone. Looks like some one replaced the old stones with a new spelling which may now be used by any descendants (speculation). --Rich Richard L. Hi! Does anyone on the list possibly have a Greene County Cemetery Book? If so, would it be too much to ask you to check for BLEDSOES? My 2nd great-grandmother, Sarah BLEDSOE had a brother, Charles who lived just across the county line (I presume it was "just across the county line"), since all the rest of his family happened to settle in Christian County, when they made their move together. I have no burial site for him, or his descendants. This is what I have on Charles BLEDSOE'S family: Descendants of Charles Bledsoe 1 Charles Bledsoe b: 1833 in Washington County, TN d: Bef. 1897 in Greene County, MO .. +Delitha I. Not much. Smith Cave is about 750 ft long. The fish hatchery is (was) about half way between you and Cash Spring, about 0.75 miles north of you. It was probably still operating (or still there) in 1955. Looks like it only consisted of about 3 ponds. I don't see any reference to that school, but it might be there. There used to be a Glendale School on that spit of land just east of where Bull Creek and West Fork come together, on the west side of section 33. It was gone before 1955. There is lots of interesting stuff in that area, including: Virgin Cave Smith Cave An old fish hatchery The ghost town of Lawing is a couple miles to the NW. A couple of months ago, we discovered a landmark located on his land. He beleives it maybe the an old school. He is thinking its Bluff Spring School. Bull creek runs through the land. Then again, it may not be a school. The only part left to the building is the concrete floor foundation with shrubs and grass covering it. If Bluff Spring School is located somewhere else, please let me know. If anyone may know what that place was at one time, please inform me. Thanks.

There was a road from Forsyth to Springfield that ran north into Chadwick - was that the one you needed? Also out of Taneyville the old Garrison road went into Springfield which would be to out of Taneyville. Thelma [email protected] wrote: > I know the one in Ozark. In 1912 it appears to be on the property of G.W. Bridges but it almost ajoins the property of F.M. Davis who owns almost all of 9 sections or almost the entire SE 1/4 of the whole township over 5000 acres. The nearest cemetery I find is Mapes cemetery abt 1/2 mile east and Cobb cemetery abt 1 1/2 miles south. Richard L. Bench 1709 Taylor Ct. Olathe, KS 66062-2412 [email protected]
Here is what my father-in-law told me about it. It was originally a big farm with several 1,000 of acres. A man by the name of 'Cooper' owned all of it. Afterwards, it was subdivided off into sections. There was a swing bridge with pillars to hold the bridge. About 1/2 mile down from the slab (on Bull Creek--off Center Rd.), there is a cemetery. He didn't know the name of the Cemetery and there is another one located there as well somewhere else. Somewhere in the vicinity there was a mill about 2-3 miles below the school house. Also, there use to be a creek around there named, Cash Springs. There was also a main road leading from Forsyth to Springfield, Missouri and that part of the road on his land, was a stage coach were people would water their horses. I hope this help on finding out more about what the name maybe. Again it is located in Section 33, Township 26 N, Range 20 W. Let me know if this help anyone out in finding the name of the school. Thanks everyone. Michelle Fitzpatrick
I remember reading years ago, in some literature course, a quote by some French cynic - Rimbaud, Rabelais, Baudelaire, I'm not sure which. The essense: "One who denies a compliment is less likely to be claiming the compliment is untrue then that they hope to escalate the praise with a 'not really', 'oh, definitely', sort of exchange". Recognizing a nugget of truth in the cynicism, I always try when someone says something nice to simply say, "Thank You." I'm not sure but that that one quote is about all I still have from that French literature course. At any rate, thanks for all the compliments. Nearly sixteen years ago, I began indexing Christian County records. Like the old Greek concept that a man with a tiny spark of light perceives a small circle of darkness, but the bigger the fire grows, the larger the circle of darkness around it - the comparison being that a person who knows little believes their ignorance to be also small, but as they learn more they begin to realize how much they do not know. Even in the minute little sphere of trying to learn about Christian County genealogy, I know there is so much more to learn. I haven't even really begun. Still, some materials are now in files or on-line. If I don't share it, the work has all been for nothing. Also, it is both appropriate and expected that sharing is a two-way street, and I cannot expect to receive without giving. Much we seek to learn about our ancestors and their lives was never recorded, was recorded but has been lost, or remains in that vast majority of records yet unexplored, untranscribed, unindexed and out of easy reach. Together, we can progress on the journey, but we can never reach an end. Each ancestor idenfiied produces two new ancestors to seek. Still, thanks for sharing the journey. We are further than we once were.
Here I would have to agree because Mable has done so much for me since I am writing a book on the history of Christian County, MO. She has helped out tremendously as well as, other issues. A GREAT BIG THANKS to you Mable Phillips. Michelle Fitzpatrick [email protected]
