    3. Mabel- Thanks so much for your response. What I have been looking for is a map of Christian County to give me reference points, such as how close is Nixa to Sparta. For those who live in Christian County, this would be (as my kids say) a "DUH!" but I live in California and haven't been lucky enough to get to Christian County yet. I searched the Christian County library and genealogy websites and came up empty handed, but found this site-maybe it will help others. http://ozarks.smsu.edu/LocPage/County/Christian/ The 1920 Clason Map was very helpful for me-it has things listed that aren't on the current map. Thanks again! Meg Gentry Bookout Mabel Phillips wrote: > There are maps for some dates. Unlike geographic townships, these > political townships change as population increase. 2. Just my note of thanks to Mabel and anyone else who might be involved with this latest census offering. I see the names of lots of relatives there, and I've barely looked into it so far. These kinds of things are much appreciated. Best Regards, Tim McGinnis Wheaton, IL

    3. There are maps for some dates. Unlike geographic townships, these political townships change as population increase. There were originally seven. Each was roughly a seventh of the size of the county. There are now 26. Because of the (impossible) attempt to equalize the number of voters per precinct, the territory of the four townships in Nixa and the four in Ozark are smaller than those in the national forest. Of the original seven, only one retains exactly the same name, Linden. The history of township names, etc. is on the transcribed records website, under where in Christian county is that. Porter included the town of Nixa.

    3. Thank you, Mabel! My gg-grandmother Missouri Tennessee West Hollingsworth was born in 1854 in the area of what is now Wilson's Creek, but after the battle, her father moved the family to his father's farm (his father was Annas West). She always said she was from Nixa, and since she was raised on her grandfather's farm, which was located in Porter township, it was probably the part where Nixa is (or nearby). The 1876 census lists the section number for Annas' property-that will help me find where their farm was! Thanks again! Meg Mabel Phillips wrote: > There are maps for some dates. 3. Another fabulous resource, Mable. Thank you SO MUCH! I have a question-I found my West families in Porter. Is there a map online that will tell me where Porter is located? My 4th g-grandpa Annas West had 193 acres, and his sons had hundreds more (for a total of more than 500 acres), so another question would be, how large is/was Porter? Thanks again! 3. If you are having difficulty with the 1876 census, there are two possible reasons: They do require Adobe Acrobat. Is that installed? If not, you can install the free software from the link on that page, or at the same link here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html Some web-tv products lack the hard drive to download Adobe Acrobat Reader and cannot use files produced with it. Second, some files are long. The amount of time required to load varies with the connection and the computer. Until the file loads, the page will appear to be blank.

I have a photo of Nancy Angeline KELTNER BLEDSOE, as well as of her daughter and granddaughter, if you would like for me to e-mail you a .jpg copy. According to a family member who shared this with me, my 2nd gr grandmother's brother's son, Charles BLEDSOE, as a teen-ager, was kicked out of his step-father's home to fend for himself, and your Henry Harrison KELTNER was the brother who took him in, after Nancy's husband made that decision. 3. Hi Cassie, To be honest with you, I am not sure who shared the information that I have on this family, but I know that it came from this mailing list, early on. Within reason, yes I would love to see what you have on the BALLS who were in Christian County. Not that I have any relatives who were BALLS, but I just have a lot of curiosity regarding any ties to my family there, in the early days. All these folks must have been either connected in some way, or knew something of one another in those early days when the population wasn't what it is today.
