    3. I know many of you have seen my list of 325 couples, though some are of multiple marriages of one individual, who came from Middle Tennessee to Christian County. And, yes, I do know that that is just an easy sample. There were definitely many more. lulu2002 wrote: >In talking to a lawyer/historian/author in mid Tennessee, he said that the >early Greene County census was almost an exact replica of his census in >mid-TN. >Cassie > > > >>From: [email protected] >>Reply-To: [email protected] >>Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 22:33:11 EST >>To: [email protected] >>Subject: Re: [MOCHRIST] BENNETT Brick Wall in Christian Co MO >>Resent-From: [email protected] >>Resent-Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 20:33:07 -0700 >> >>You asked about families who moved to Missouri from Tennessee. 3. I don't know that she's yours, but there is a Susan E. Johnson age 14 among the 9 children listed with Joyce A. Johnson age 50 in Hazelwood Township, Webster County, MO 1880 census, page 281 A. You might investigate her further to find whether she is the one you are seeking. I don't know what the father's name was, but the youngest child was 7, so he apparently died after 1872. You can look at the census on Family Search. 2. Hi Mike, haven't seen you on for some time. Don't know if your e-mail was meant to me or not. Alvis Cook was my great grandfather and he did die in Nevada, Vernon County at the mental hospital and is buried there. Harriet is buried in Spokane Cemetery as is Harmon (my grandfather) and my grandmother Biddie Ann Berry Cook. Harmon Sherman Cook (not Harmon Sherman Porter Cook) bought the store in 1924 and has been in the family since that time. The store is located near Rogersville, about 10 miles east of Springfield and is owned by my uncle Earl Cook. It is closed now as Earl Cook has had a mild stroke. He is trying to sell it. I would love to be able to keep it in the family or make it a historical site. I understand it had been in operation at least 70 years possibly more. I believe we are cousins. Maybe we can compare info sometime. I am in Southern California Sincerely, Wanda (cook) King [email protected]

    3. John Wesley BENNETT, b 21 Feb 1829 TN; d 23 Oct 1900 Christian Co MO; bur Lindsey Chapel Cem, Greene Co MO. This man was not in Greene Co MO in the 1850 census. First known record in MO is when he married 14 Dec 1854 in Greene Co MO to Sarah Elizabeth MOORE. They lived in the Delaware Bridge area. I have a tremendous amount of info on her for several generations back, but cannot get a handle on where he was born and lived in TN. I cannot seem to tie him to any of the other BENNETTs in Greene Co MO in 1850. Bottom line is, I am stuck exactly where I was when I started searching for him 34 years ago. Children: John Edward BENNETT m Amanda O. McCORKLE Nancy L. (Tishia) BENNETT m Joseph S. GERARD Cordelia V. BENNETT m Thomas PHILLIPS William A. BENNETT m Delilah A. SHORT James Martin BENNETT m Susan Adaline HAYS Not a single one of the above children are buried in the same cemetery. John Edward in Payne Cem; Tishia in Frazier Cem; Cordelia in Lindsey Chapel; William in Tehama Co CA; and James Martin in Wade Chapel, Greene Co MO. Does anyone have a family that moved to Christian Co from TN between 1850-1854 that might have let him tag along with them? If so, what county in TN? Thanks a lot. My great grand uncle Alvis Jackson Cook (normally referred to as A. J.) was married to Harriet Francis Jenkins. He was supposed to have died and been buried in Nevada, Vernon county while she is supposed to be buried in Spokane cemetery in Christian county. Their son Harmon Sherman Porter Cook was supposed to have died in Webster county. Which of these families is the one with the store? And do you know where on the Webster/Greene county line the store you refer to was located? I have quite a bit more info about these families that I would be glad to share with you.

    2. MARY FARRIS FLOW CAMPBELL came to Greene County (later Christian County) Missouri with her second husband John Campbell who died in 1846. Mary Cammel is found in 1850 Finley Township, Greene County, Missouri as 44 year old born in NC with son James Flow age 15 Blacksmith born in TN, daughter Josephine Flow age 9 born in TN, son John (Crockett) age 4 born in MO, and son Dewitt (Clinton) age 6 months born in MO. Mary Campbell is found in 1860 Census living in Finley Township in Christian County P.O. Ozark with son John age 12 and son Dewitt age 8. Mary is a Taylorist. Son James Flow has married Sarah Inmon and by 1870 would be living in Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. Daughter Josephine has married James K. P. Russell and they are living in the town of Lindon, Christian County, Missouri. They also would move to Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. Mary was in Texas with her son Dewitt in the 1870 Census but I lost her after that and do not know where she died or where she was buried. Elaine Russell Coffman Dallas, Texas

    3. I have been unable to verify the origin or the final destiny of my great, great grandfather. I know that Jacob B. Fowler was born between 1822 and 1825 in Tennessee. I know he married Martha Virginia Elkins in 1846. They had a daughter Laura Ann and a son Stokely D. before 1849. Virginia and the children were living with the parents, a widowed brother and his daughter and her younger brothers and sister on the 1850 Cannon Co census. Jacob hasn't been found anywhere on the 1850 census. I suspect that my Jacob B. Fowler was the J. B. Fowler for whom a warrant was issued for his arrest in Linden, Greene County, Missouri in 1853 along with another individual for "running horses on a public road" - the 1853 equivalent of drag racing. The men were never found and arrested. In 1854, Jacob and Virginia's family resumed with seven additional children born by 1866. In December of 1866, Jacob divorced Virginia in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Less than a week later, he married Susan Ford. The marriage took place in the home of Lewis Claiborne Fowler. Lewis Claiborne Fowler was the brother of Jacob B. Fowler born 1803 in Warren County Tennessee in the part of the county which later became Cannon County. I have long suspected that "My" Jacob B. Fowler was related to the other Jacob B. Fowler, but this one connection is all that I have found. The older Jacob B. Fowler was in Marshall County, Tennessee in 1840, 1850 & 1860 censuses. Jacob and Susan, along with Susan's father and step-mother, Jesse and Melinda Ford, come to Christian County sometime between the 1876 Agricultural Census and the 1880 Federal Census. Sons Stokely D. (same as first son from his first marriage) and Benjamin Brownlow were born in 1871 and 1876 somewhere in Missouri. Daughters Laura Ann (Fowler) Hart Parton Wimmer and Mary Belle (Fowler) Phillips and son Marion Huntley Fowler also lived in Christian County. Jacob was in Christian County right up through Feb 1900 when he filed a lawsuit against his youngest son Benjamin. Jacob, Susan, Stokely or Benjamin have never been found on any 1900, 1910 or 1920 census anywhere. I did just recently find a Benjamin Fowler on a 1930 Kansas Census which seems to match this son. I don't know who Jacob's birth family were, when or where he died or (one of the biggest puzzles) why he chose after divorcing his first wife to settle in the one place on earth where there were as many of her immediate family (brother H. R. J. Elkins, sister Melissa Caroline (Elkins) Melton, aunt Ann (Elkins) Brown Pendleton, uncle Jacob Melton and scores of cousins and other kin) as there were back home.

For the rest of the month, and April, let's focus on your Christian County brick walls. One message per "wall" but as many "walls" as you like, as long as they have some itty bitty inkling of a tie to CCMO. Remember, each one, in the subject line, start off with the surname in ALL CAPS, and follow with CCMO BRICK WALL or similar. Then post all that you have, or can, on that individual.
