My great-great-great-grandfather, Garrett Ellerman, moved to Blackjack, Missouri (about seven miles from Caplinger Mills) from Indiana just after the Civil War, supposedly with his brother, and I recently found this family listed online in the 1850 Census of Franklin County, Indiana. My guy, Garrett, was 17 at the time, and it lists William (apparently his brother) as age 13. NOW I can put some of these people together! My next-door-neighbor was Lawnie Ellerman, and I never could figure out how he was related to us . . . it was just too far back. Almost every single family in Blackjack and Eldorado Springs are related to these people in some way . . . all the kids I went to school with, it's just unbelievable. I know Lawnie's mother was born in a cave, during the Civil War (this cave is as close to Caplinger as you can get-- we used to hike over there on Sundays sometimes) . . . so I'll bet she married one of William's sons.
