One is the family under discussion here. The father was John Henry (Hinrich) Ellerman; the mother was Elizabeth. The children listed are my great-great-great grandfather Garrett, his brother William (the man under discussion in this board), and their sister Sophie. John Henry Ellerman's mother Mary was also living with them at that time. The Lutheran church records in Franklin County, Indiana, are also quite extensive and have information about the Ellermans who remained in Indiana. I also found naturalization records that some of the Ellermans filed orally ("first papers") in Franklin County, Indiana. It is possible that Franklin County might have records on the Aehle family, too, if Molly was from there. It appears that a whole bunch of neighbors from Osnabruck in the Kingdom of Hannover, Germany, sailed together from Bremen to New York, then moved to Cincinnati and eventually settled in Franklin County, Indiana. Then some of the Ellermans, including Garrett, his brother William, and perhaps their cousin Herman, moved to Cedar County, Missouri, after the Civil War. I have not been able to turn up any information about Herman, and would love to hear from anyone who knows about him. He is called "Hermine" on the 1850 Indiana census that I mentioned. Darlene Palmer, who is in charge of the Ellerman records at the Lutheran church mentioned above, sent me a copy of John Henry Ellerman's will. In it he names his son Garrett, although he calls him "Gerhard," and another son named John (about whom I have no other information). He mentions his other children, but does not name them. Darlene said that John Henry Ellerman's brother (Herman's father) was named John Gerhard Ellerman. This creates some confusion, as John Henry Ellerman used the name "Henry," and John Gerhard Ellerman used the name "John."
